Agnes Peterson, age 90 of Osakis passed away on Tuesday, Sept. 4, 2007 at the Douglas County Hospital in Alexandria, MN.
Agnes Mary Fuchs was born on July 19, 1917 in Stevens County, MN to Louis and Mary (Kasmaker) Fuchs. She moved to the Osakis area as a child and grew up on a farm north of Osakis. On June 6, 1939 Agnes was united in marriage to Roy Peterson at the Immaculate Conception church in Osakis. They farmed north of Osakis for many years. Agnes was a member of the Immaculate Conception parish in Osakis.
Agnes was happy living in the country and working on the farm. She raised chickens and sold eggs, milked cows (even up to the age of 70) and tended a large garden each year. She was an excellent cook who was well known for her fried chicken, bread and biscuits and beef soup. She did many hours of sewing and patchwork and kept the pantry full of canned goods for the long winter.
After Roy's death in '94, Agnes's constant companion was a poodle/pomeranian mix named Ginger. Ginger managed to save Anges's life two times during their years together and Agnes thought of her as her furry guardian angel. In addition to visiting with family and friends, Agnes also enjoyed going to play bingo or spending a day playing the slot machines at the casino. She was a king and loving mother, grandma and sister who will be dearly missed.
Agnes is survived by her seven children, Ron (Nancy) Peterson of Bloomington, Mary Ann (Arlo) Witt, Richard and Russell Peterson, all of Osakis, Doris (Curt) Hanson of Little Falls, Judy (LeRoy) Toenies of Sauk Centre, Ruth (James) Tessier of Farmington; 14 grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren; a sister, Helen Case of Clarissa, MN.
She is preceded in death by her parents, husband, Roy, a grandson, Michael Witt and a granddaughter, Jeanne Hanson; 1 sister, Pauline Carrick.
A Mass of Resurrection will be held for Agnes on Saturday, September 9, 2007 at 11:00 am at the Immaculate Conception Catholic church in Osakis with Fr. Ralph Zimmerman officiating. Interment will be at the Calvary Cemetery in Osakis with honorary pallbearers, Julie Shelstad, Dawn Axelrod, Kathy Browning, Karen Eng, Annah Tessier, Cindy Diel and Shanna Middendorf.
