Alden Bjorstrom

Alden Bjorstrom, age 86 of Little Sauk Township, Todd Co., died unexpectedly on Monday, May 30 at the Long Prairie Hospital. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, June 4 at 2:00 pm at the Long Bridge Lutheran Church in Little Sauk. Visitation will begin on Saturday one hour before the service at the church.
Alden Gerald Bjorstrom was born on May 25, 1930 in Minneapolis, MN to Alfred G. and Judith Amanda (Olson) Bjorstrom. When the family moved to live in Little Sauk Township, Todd Co, MN Alden was only 5 years old. He went to country school and his first job was driving milk truck for the Little Sauk Creamery. On September 6, 1952, Alden married his sweetheart, Dorothy Westerberg at the Long Bridge Lutheran Church in rural Little Sauk. Alden then served his country during the Korean War as a soldier in the U.S. Army. He returned home after two years of duty and was soon hired by the Long Prairie Creamery. Later Alden was hired to do construction work for Smith's Construction of Long Prairie and also was a bus driver for the Long Prairie School District. Alden was employed for several years at the Land O' Lakes plant in Browerville, and farmed near Maple Lake for over 30 years. As recent as last fall, Alden continued to help plant and bring in the harvest on the farm.
As a very active member of Long Bridge Lutheran Church, Alden served on the church and cemetery boards and was the cemetery sexton for many years. He loved country life and got out hunting each year for deer and pheasant. He liked to go fishing year round and worked many hours in his woodshop throughout the long winter months. He especially enjoyed crafting homemade furniture and bird houses. Anyone stopping in to visit might find the radio tuned to old time music, and Alden liked to play keyboard and accordion as well. He was a kind and loving husband, father, grandpa, great-grandpa, brother and uncle who will be dearly missed by his family and many friends.
He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Dorothy Bjorstrom of Long Prairie; his children, Diane (Britt) Casey of St. Cloud, Susan Bjorstrom of Dassel, MN and Robert (Michele Zellar) Bjorstrom of Elk River; 5 grandchildren; 7 great grandchildren; a brother, Gary Bjorstrom of Osakis; his in-laws, Monica Westerberg of Long Prairie, Ruth Westerberg of Osakis, Velma Bjostrom of Osakis, Debra Westerberg of Dassel and Peter (Iris) Westerberg of Minnetonka; many nieces and nephews.
Memorial services will be held on Saturday, June 4, 2016 at 2:00 pm at the Long Bridge Lutheran Church in Little Sauk, MN with Rev. Steve Hilde officiating. Musicians are organist Sandy Weiser and soloist, Miriam Thornquist. Honorary pallbearers are his grandchildren, Heidi Lock, Ryan Bjorstrom, Peter, Matthew and Kristina Rootes. Memorials are preferred to the Long Bridge Cemetery fund.
