LIFE HISTORY FOR ALFRED GARVIN
Alfred Garvin, age 90 of Alexandria, formerly of rural Osakis, passed away on Friday evening, November 21 at the Douglas County Hospital in Alexandria, MN.
Alfred John Garvin was born on October 14, 1918 in Orange Township, Douglas Co., to William and Hulda (Polley) Garvin. He attended country school and then served his country during WWII in the U.S.Army. After his honorable discharge, Alfred returned to the home and farm he loved. On July 7, 1948 Alfred was united in marriage to Mae Whiting in Erdahl, MN. He spent all the rest of his working life farming in Orange Township, Douglas Co, MN. He retired from farming in 1985, but still enjoyed helping his sons work the land. In September of this year, the Garvin's moved into the Nelson Gables apartments in Alexandria.
Alfred was a hard worker and enjoyed farming and working outdoors. He did a lot of mechanic work over the years and also enjoyed seeing the kids and grandkids enjoy life on the farm. He liked to go fishing, bowling, traveling, dancing and getting together with the neighbors for card parties. He will be remembered for his optimistic outlook on life and the joy being with his family and grandkids brought him. Blessed be his memory.
He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Mae Garvin of Alexandria; children, Peggy (Ken) Wegleitner of Burtrum, Rodney (Kathy) Garvin of Fergus Falls, Vicki (Bruce) Wunderlich of Burtrum, Ricky (Marcia) Garvin of Alexandria, Fay Garvin of Bend, OR, Bruce (Estelle) Garvin of Alexandria; 11 grandchildren; 5 great, grandchildren; a brother, Orville (Ruth) Garvin of Osakis; 3 sisters, Doris Holder of Osakis, Ina Holder of Bakersfield, CA and Lucille Ehrenberg of Little Falls, MN; many nieces and nephews.
Preceding him in death are his parents, two sons, Billy Garvin and Paul Garvin;3 brothers, William, Lyle and Kenneth Garvin; 3 sisters, Violet Bearson, Viola Malo and Edith Fearing.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, November 26 at 2:00 pm at the Osakis Lutheran Church with Rev. Ron Calvert officiating. Musicians are organist, Pat Converse and soloist, Allen Larson Interment is at the West Evergreen Cemetery in Osakis with military honors by the Osakis VFW Honor Guard. Urn bearer is Eric Pohlmann and honorary bearers are the Osakis VFW Honor Guard.
