LIFE HISTORY FOR ALLEN ENGFER
Allen Engfer, age 64 of Osakis went to his heavenly home on Sunday, February 10, 2008 at the Douglas County Hospital in Alexandria, MN.
Allen Gale Engfer was born on December 18, 1943 in Carlos, MN to Albert and Myrtle (McCommas) Engfer. He served his country in the U.S. Navy during the Cuban Missile crisis and was honorably discharged in 1965. He returned to the Twin Cities and worked as an electrical lineman. He married Lyla Tonn on May 18, 1968 at the Osakis Lutheran Church. They moved to a farm east of Osakis and Al continued to work as an electrical lineman and also did some farming. From 1970 to 1975 he owned and operated the Osakis Pool Hall and then became interested in selling real estate. He first worked with Darwin and Kathleen Hetland at Eldred Realty and then opened his own business called Osakis Realty in 1991.
Al was a member of the Redeemer Lutheran Church in Osakis and had also served on the church board. He was a member of the Osakis VFW Post and the American Legion. He belonged to the Osakis Chamber of Commerce and the Osakis Sportsman's Club.
Some of Al's favorite pastimes included hunting, fishing and playing pool. In his younger days, Al enjoyed racing stock cars and was still a fan of the NASCAR races. He could often be found enjoying coffee and conversation every morning with the guys at A.J.'s cafe. He was a kind and loving husband, father, grandpa and brother who will be dearly missed by his family and friends. His family is very proud that Al gave the gift of life to others as an organ/tissue donor.

Al is survived by his wife, Lyla Engfer of Osakis; a son, Rick Engfer and a daughter, Shelly (Scott) Triebenbach, all of Osakis; grandchildren, Blake Engfer, Kadyn and Chase Triebenbach; a brother, Thomas (Linda) Engfer of Alexandria, MN and three sisters, Jean (Thomas) Quay, Sr., of Mound, Janice (Donald) Trummer of Mexico and Lorraine Frier of Fargo, ND; several nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents.
A celebration of Allen's life was held for family and friends on Wednesday, February 13, 2008 from 3 - 6 pm at the Roy-Hetland Funeral Chapel in Osakis with private family services held prior. He is intered at the Lakeside Cemetery in Osakis, MN.
