Life History for Bernice Bauer
Bernice Bauer, age 91 of Sauk Centre, died Saturday, January 28, 2012 at the St. Michael's Nursing Home in Sauk Centre, MN.
On December 19, 1920, Bernice Amelda Gregoire was born in Lyon County, MN to Harvey and Ada (Stassen) Gregoire. She grew up in Marshall and on July 24, 1943 was united in marriage to Lester Bauer at the Marshall Catholic Church sacristy. After Lester's discharge from the service, they settled in Marshall. In addition to raising her sons, Bernice worked for the Marshall Public School and the Holy Redeemer Parochial School as an assistant cook. Upon their retirement, the Bauer's traveled around the country in their motor home. They eventually purchased a place in Texas, spending their winter's there and returning to spend the summer months near Smith Lake near Nelson, MN and later at the Lakeshore Estates in Sauk Centre, MN.
Bernice was a member of the Marshall VFW Ladies Auxiliary. Bernice also enjoyed being on the go, she loved to travel and go sightseeing. Whether it was by motor home, motorcycle, boat or even snowmobile, she loved to be visiting new places. Some of her other hobbies included crocheting, playing cards and/or board games, esp. bingo. It helped that she was often the lucky winner! She loved to be with her family, especially her grandchildren. She was a kind and loving mother, grandma and sister who will be dearly missed by her family and friends.
Bernice is survived by her three sons, Ronald (Susan) Bauer of Orlando, FL, Wayne (Cheryl) Bauer of Sauk Centre and James Bauer of Lahina Maui, HI; 6 grandchildren, Teri Bauer-Bernard, Sue Bauer, Jacob (Keri) Bauer, Joel (Veronica) Latva, Tyler and Kayla Neumann; 1 great, grandson, Lancin Bernard; 1 sister, Patricia Stalpes- Curwick of Rogers, MN; brother-in-law, Bob Obermann and sisters-in-law, Shirley Gregoire and Eleanora Sinclair; many nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband of sixty-six years, Lester in 2009; a brother, Duane Gregoire and sisters, Betty Obermann and infant sister, Delores Gregoire.
Memorial services will be held on Sunday, February 5, 2012 at 3:00 pm at the St. Michael's Nursing Home Dining Hall in Sauk Centre, MN with Fr. Sylvester Kleinschmidt officiating. Interment will be at Fort Snelling National Cemetery in Minneapolis, MN.
Arrangements are handled by the Roy-Hetland Funeral Home in Osakis, MN.
