Life History for BERNICE QUISTORFF
Bernice Quistorff, age 91 of Sauk Centre, MN passed away on Monday, February 15, 2010 at the Mother of Mercy Nursing Home in Albany, MN.
Bernice Victoria Olson was born on November 16, 1918 in Kandiyohi County near Willmar, MN to John H. and Esther (Hildrum) Olson. Bernice worked at the Waldorf Cafe in Sauk Centre from 1950 until 1954. On February 12, 1955 Bernice was united in marriage to Albert Quistorff at the First Lutheran Church in Sauk Centre. Bernice then went to work for Clyde Thomas at the Our Own Hardware Store in Sauk Centre and then Norman and Vivian Bowen. When Ken & Darlene Rafthseth bought the store it became known as True Value Hardware. Overall, Bernice worked at the hardware store for 27 years. For the next ten years she worked as a cook at Sauk Centre Elementary School. In addition to working full time and raising her children, Bernice and Albert served as church custodians for over 32 years at the First Lutheran Church in Sauk Centre. Bernice was also a long time member of the VFW Post #2853 Ladies Auxiliary and belonged to the Degree of Honor.
Some of Bernice's favorite past times included going camping, fishing, traveling and getting together with friends for games of Canasta. She was an excellent cook who will be long remembered for her delicious meals and homemade bread. She also liked to sew and do crafts.
She is survived by daughters, Geraldine (James) Haskins of Shoreview, MN and Kay Quistorff of Washington, DC; two granddaughters, Julie (Scott) Bany of Holmes City and Tracy Cunningham (Erin) of Elk River; six great grandchildren, Samantha, Danielle, Kyle and Tyler Bany and Alexis and Jake Cunningham; a brother, Donald Olson of Shoreview, MN; many nieces and nephews.
Bernice is preceded in death by her parents, husband, Albert in 2006; son, Dennis Aspaas; sister, Ruth Soderlind; brother, Wayne Olson.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, June 12 at 11 am at the First Lutheran Church in Sauk Centre. Visitation begins one hour prior to the service. Burial is at the Silver Creek Cemetery. Memorials are preferred to Mother of Mercy Home in Albany or the Silver Creek Cemetery fund. Arrangements by Roy-Hetland Funeral Home, Osakis, MN.
