Betty Heuer

Betty Heuer, age 82 of Osakis passed away on Thursday, June 6, 2019 at the Galeon in Osakis, MN .

Betty was born on January 4, 1937 in Raymond, MN to Lamert and Alma (Teichert) Gerdes.  She graduated from Raymond High School in 1954.  She was married to Ralph Cummens on October 22, 1955 in Clara City, MN.  They worked and lived in the Twin Cities where they raised six children.  She met Jim Heuer and was married to him on February 11, 1984 in Hector, MN.  After a four years living in Hector, the Heuer’s moved near Phoenix, Arizona.  They both worked until retirement for Tri-Rentals in Phoenix.  They spent eighteen years there before moving back to Minnesota and settling in Osakis, MN.  They belonged to the Osakis Lutheran Church.  Betty was a life time member of both the American Legion and VFW Auxiliaries.

Besides time on the lake boating and fishing, Betty also enjoyed playing cards and going golfing.  She was a devoted MN Twins and Vikings fan and loved to socialize and go dancing.  She was a loving grandma and great grandma who spoiled her grandkids whenever she could.

She will live on in the hearts of her husband, James ‘Jim’ Heuer of Osakis; six children, Richard (Denise) Cummens of Buffalo Lake, Donna (Jerry)Strobel of Rochester, Pattie (Don) Miller of Bloomington, Lori (Mark) Rath of Buffalo Lake, Gregory (Amanda) Cummens of Huntersville, NC; 4 stepchildren, James (Patty) Heuer, Jr. of Lorado, TX, William (Debra) Heuer of Glencoe, MN, Carey (Missy) Heuer of Alexandria, KY, Patrick (Michelle) Heuer of Waverly, MN; 11 grandchildren and 7 step grandchildren; 18 great grandchildren and 6 step great grandchildren; 2 great great grandchildren; siblings, Ron (Dorothy) Gerdes of Cross Lake, Don (Deanna) Gerdes of Sioux Falls, SD, Arlette (John) Rubertus of McKinney,TX, Galen (Ardis) Gerdes of Clara City, MN and Jim Gerdes of Glenwood, MN; many nieces and nephews.

Betty is preceded in death by her parents and a son, Thomas Cummens.

Funeral services for Betty will be Saturday, June 15, 2019 at 11:00 am at the Osakis Lutheran Church with Rev. Rich Fitzer officiating.  A gathering for family and friends will begin at the church at 10 am.  Inurnment will take place at Ft. Snelling National Cemetery in Minneapolis, MN.
