Calvin Gould, age 87 of Long Prairie went to meet his Savior on Wednesday evening, Dec. 14, 2011 from the Long Prairie Nursing Home in Long Prairie, MN.
Calvin Frederick Gould was born on April 14, 1924 in New Castle, Nebraska to Frederick and Kathryn (Johnson) Gould. As a young man Calvin joined the United States Marines and served his country in Japan and the Pacific Theatre. He was honorably discharged in 1946 and returned home to complete his GED and then attended the North Central University. On December 31, 1953, Calvin was united in marriage to Joanne Elaine Van Dyke in Sioux City, IA. In 1972 Calvin lost his leg in a farming accident and yet he persevered. He continued roofing and even started a long career of roofing barns with his signature tractor. As Calvin would say he was a "roofer by trade." He enjoyed doing construction work and farming.
Calvin belonged to the Assembly of God church in Long Prairie, having served as a deacon. He was a township assessor, a member of the Browerville VFW and the North Central Univ. Alumni Assoc.
Some of his interests included going on family picnics, hunting and traveling. He enjoyed history and "collected" classic cars.
He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Joanne Gould of Long Prairie; his children, Phillip (Rhonda) Gould of Long Prairie, Dewayne Gould of Burleson, TX, Ruth Khamassi of Long Prairie, David (Tammy) Gould of Browerville, Frederick Gould of Willmar; 12 grandchildren; 5 great grandchildren; 2 sisters, Hazel Blatchford of Laurel, NE and Jewel (Harley) Humes of Salina, KS; many nieces and nephews.
Preceding him in death are his parents, his stepmother, Esther (Johnson) Gould; four siblings, Viola Birkley, Donald Gould, Melvin Gould and Max Gould.
Visitation for Calvin will be on Monday evening from 4 - 8 pm at the Assembly of God church in Long Prairie. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, December 20 at 11:00 am also at the Assembly of God Church with Rev. John Serrano officiating. Pianist is Peggy Sandelin. Interment is at the Evergreen Cemetery in Long Prairie. Pallbearers are by his grandsons, Aaron, Steven, Dorian and Donovan, Jesson, Ian, Zachary Gould and Ahmed Khamassi. Military honors are provided by the Long Prairie VFW Post # 1140 and the American legion Post # 12 Honor Guards.
Arrangements were handled by the Roy-Hetland Funeral Home in Osakis, MN.
