Darrell Schultz

Darrell Schultz of Osakis passed away on Memorial Day, May 26, 2014 at the Community Memorial Home at the age of 80 years.
On November 16, 1933 a baby boy was born to Lester and Pearl (Anderson) Schultz in Leslie Township, Todd County, MN. They named him Darrell LeRoy. He grew up on the family farm and attended Osakis High School, graduating with the Class of 1952. On May 1, 1954 he was united in marriage to Beverly Christensen at the Osakis Lutheran Church. Darrell loved farming and country life and he was able to make it his life's work. He and Beverly operated a dairy farm for many years in Leslie Township, Todd Co. As time and hard work took its physical toll, Darrell finally sold the herd of milking cows and focused more on crop farming. He was an active lifetime member of the Osakis Lutheran Church and had served on the church board.
Besides his love of family and farming, Darrell also enjoyed many activities. He was an avid bowler and belonged to bowling leagues for years. He looked forward to deer hunting each fall and going golfing each summer. He loved to ride snowmobiles and go motorcycling. Indoor sports included playing many games of pool or ping-pong with family and friends. He especially enjoyed time with his grandkids.
Darrell is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Beverly Schultz of Osakis; three children, Deb Dowell of Osakis, Peggy Vandevender of Avon and Larry (Kelly) Schultz of Alexandria; 6 grandchildren and 1 great grandson; two sisters, Lorraine (Maurice Johnson of St. Bonifacius, MN and Lavonne (Bob) Haburn of Osakis; several nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents and a nephew, Michael Haburn.
Funeral services will be held Friday, May 30, 2014 at 11:00 am at the Osakis Lutheran Church with Rev. Don Resig officiating. Musicians are Pat Converse and Dana Hetland. Interment is at the Pleasant Mound Cemetery in Leslie Township, Todd Co., MN with honorary casketbearers being his granddaughters, Jennie Dowell, Pamela Nelson and Megan Schultz and a great grandson, Joshua Scepaniak. Active bearers are his three grandsons, Connor and Justin Schultz and James Vandevender, along with Bruce Sadlemeyer, Chub Hensley and LeRoy Zabel.
