Deloris 'Dolly' Holden, age 80 of Alexandria, MN passed away on Saturday evening, June 25 at the Knute Nelson Memorial Home in Alexandria, MN.
Deloris Jane Erickson was born on February 9, 1931 in West Union Township, Todd Co., MN to Mark and Alice (Simmons) Erickson. She grew up on the family farm. One of her first jobs was working as a waitress at the Walleye Inn in Osakis, MN. On November 25, 1948 Deloris, who went by the nickname 'Dolly' was united in marriage to Chester Holden in St. James, MN. They lived in Iowa for 8 years where Dolly did waitressing and factory work. Upon return to the Osakis area, Deloris continued to work as a waitress. She worked at several area restaurants over the years, including the Fireside Inn of Alexandria, the Corral in Nelson and the Hi-Ho Cafe & Trucker's Inn in Sauk Centre. She also made time to care for her elderly parents. In 1987, the Holden's moved to Alexandria. Deloris had most recently lived in an apartment at the Windmill Ponds until 2009, when she became a resident at the Knute-Nelson Home.
Besides working in her flower garden, Deloris also liked to play bingo or cards, work on puzzles and go to garage sales. She enjoyed listening to music and had taught herself to play the organ. She was an avid reader and liked to do some quilting projects, too. Not only was she good at serving food, Dolly was a great cook as well. She will be remembered for her delicious potato salad, apple crisp and homemade goulash. She was a hard-working, loving mother, grandma, great grandma and sister who will be deeply missed by her family and friends.
She is survived by her children, Kathy (Jim) Bridenstine of Osakis, Marian (John) Geisler of Churdan, IA, Roger (Kaye) Holden of Alexandria, Harold (Sheila Haukos) Holden of Osakis, Rick Holden of Alliance, NE and Mark (Ann) Holden of Eagle Bend, MN; 14 grandchildren; 17 great, grandchildren; 1 brother, Mark (Sandy) Erickson, Jr. of Bothell, WA; 3 sisters, Marian (Bill) Gonzalves of Middleton, CA, Evelyn Sonnenberg of Brooklyn Park, Doris (Laverne) Weisgram of Conrad, MT; many nieces and nephews.
Deceased relatives include her parents, her husband, Chester in 2004 and two brothers, Gordon and Allen Erickson.
Visitation hours for Dolly are from 4:30 pm - 7:30 pm on Friday evening at the Roy-Hetland Funeral Home in Osakis, MN.
Funeral services will be held for Dolly on Saturday, July 2, 2011 at 2:00 pm at the Knute-Nelson Chapel in Alexandria with Chaplain Jim Oakland officiating. Musicians are organist, Kathy Fiskness and soloists, Kaye & Amy Holden. Interment is at the Elim Cemetery in rural Osakis. Honorary pallbearers are her granddaughters, Amy, Amber, Lindsey and Heather Holden, Sunny Wassengeso and Kathy Rose. Active pallbearers are her grandsons, John & Ryan Geisler, Shane Bridenstine, Josh, Phillip, Kris and Richard Holden and Dylan Pearson.
