Desmond was born on December 18, 1915 in Belle River Township, Douglas Co., MN to William and Katherine (Hagan) Quinn. He attended school in Morris and then returned to work on the family farrm. On October 1, 1946 Des was united in holy matrimony to Agnes Zehnle. They farmed in Belle River and retired in the early 1980's. He moved back into his childhood home on the original family homestead. He worked diligently to rebuild the Prairie Chapel on the original site where the first Mass was said in Belle River by the missionary priests in the late eighteen hundreds.
Des was a member of St. Nicholas Catholic Church in Belle River and served as a trustee for many years. He was also a member of the Knights of Columbus. He was a past board member of the Belle River township board and belonged to the Farmers Union.
As a man of many talents and interests, Des was never without a project. He enjoyed doing woodwork and collecting antiques at area auctions. He loved to travel and wintered in Arizona during his retirement years. Music was another pleasure and he especially enjoyed playing the violin. Des loved to read, especially historical works and was an excellent storyteller. He was a loving and kind father, grandpa and brother who will be dearly missed by his family, neighbors and friends.
He is survived by his children, Thomas (Cheryl) Quinn of Roscommen, Michigan, Mary (Dennis) Grythe of Sauk Centre, Diane Liesmeyer of Osakis; 16 grandchildren; 16 great grandchildren; one sister, Helen Allen of Osakis.
Preceding him in death are his parents, his wife, Agnes in 1994, 2 great, grandchildren, Scarlet and Hollis Anderson.
