Dorothy Brown, age 83 of Niverville, New York passed away on Sunday, February 25, 2007 at her daughter 's home in Osakis, MN.
Dorothy Leah Miller was born on November 26, 1923 in Mahanoy City, PA to Wilson and Elizabeth (Jenkins) Miller. She attended Woodrow Wilson grade school in Waterbury, CT. She took business courses from Wilby High School and later worked as a secretary at Martin H. Glenn School Dist. in Valatie, NY. Dorothy was first married to Robert B. Humphrey in 1941 but Robert died in 1945 while serving in WWII. In 1948, Dorothy was again united in marriage to James W. Brown. They had only thirteen years together before Dorothy was again left a widow in 1961. Dorothy raised her family and also was employed for many years as the business office manager for the Columbia Memorial Hospital in Hudson, NY.
Dorothy was a member of the Kinderhook Reformed Church in Kinderhook, NY where she also served on the Mission Committee and was involved for many years with her Bible Study group. Dorothy enjoyed traveling and took many mission trips. She was a very meticulous person and always kept every aspect of her life very organized. She was an avid reader who also liked to keep sharp by working crossword puzzles. Dorothy had a natural gift of hospitality and was always inviting others to share a meal. She was a kind and generous mother and grandmother who will be dearly missed by her family and friends.
She is survived by her children, Linda (John) Pallow of Osakis, Elizabeth 'Libby' (Tom) Little of Kabul,Afghanistan, Jess (Agatha) Brown of Mt. Juliet, TN; 8 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren; one sister, Ethel Edwards of Scottsbluff, NE; many nieces and nephews.
Dorothy is preceded in death by her parents, her husbands, Robert Humphrey and James W. Brown; 2 brothers, Wilson and Allen Miller; 3 sisters, Elizabeth Riegel, Evelyn Korngiebel and Vivian Tower.
A Celebration of Life was held for Dorothy on Monday, March 5, 2007 at 1:00 pm at the Elim Lutheran Church in rural Osakis, MN with Rev. Paul Hohncke officiating. Musician was Juanita Klukken. A gathering time was held one hour before the service at the church and a lunch was provided by the church women following the service. Interment was at the Elim Lutheran Church Cemetery in rural Osakis, MN. Casketbearers were Chuck Hector, Rudd Wasson, Leroy Oliver, Sheldon Larson, Don Moore and Rick Klukken.
Arrangements were handled by the Roy-Hetland Funeral Home in Osakis, MN.
