Life History for Dorothy Fearing
Dorothy Fearing, age 83 of Long Prairie passed away on Friday afternoon, Oct. 5 at St. Michael's Nursing Home in Sauk Centre, MN.
Dorothy Gwyneth Evans was born on May 31,1929 in Wimbledon, England to Ernest and Violet (Nash) Evans. As a young girl, Dorothy became a barber at the age of twelve and before school she would also earn money by delivering papers. She married Ardell Fearing on January 19, 1946 shortly after the end of the war in England. Though only seventeen years of age, she moved with Ardell to the United States in 1947 and lived in Long Prairie and later, Alexandria, MN. They then lived in Aitken and Bertha, MN before settling in a country home west of Long Prairie and raised a family. She always kept in frequent correspondence with her relatives back in England. Dorothy stayed very active and was able to live in her home up until this past June.
Dorothy had a great sense of humor and used it to foster many various interests and hobbies. She loved to do painting, jigsaw puzzles and play cards, especially Whist. Dorothy had a gift for cake decorating and also liked to do handicrafts such as quilting, knitting and crocheting. She also loved to hunt, fish and garden and had beautiful flowers each season. She was an avid reader, a devoted baseball fan. Due to her love for music, she taught herself to play the piano.
She is survived by her children, Lee (Deb) Fearing of Long Prairie, Kay Gillingham of Long Prairie, Kim (Dennis) Kuhlman of Alexandria, Jan (Karin) Fearing of Long Prairie; 5 grandchildren; 3 great grandchildren; 2 brothers, David (Anne) Evans of Walton on Thames and Robert (Jen) Evans of West by Fleet, all from county of Surrey, England; many nieces and nephews.
Preceding her in death are her parents, husband, Ardell, grandson, Evan Fearing, grandson-in-law, Damon Tollin and a brother, Gordon Evans.
Memorial services will be held on Saturday, Oct. 13 at 11:00 am at the American Lutheran Church in Long Prairie with Rev. William Backewicz officiating. Musicians are Ruth Zinter and Dana Hetland. Inurnment is at the Gordon Pleasant Hill Cemetery in rural Osakis, MN.
Visitation will held at the church beginning Friday, Oct. 12 from 3 - 7 pm and again one hour before the service on Saturday.
