Duane “Snook” Phillip Barrett, Sr. of Osakis MN passed away peacefully March 1, 2024, at 86 years of age. He was born on March 14,1937 in Osakis, MN to Phillip and MaryJane Barrett. He was the oldest of 5 boys: Denny, Tom, Amos, and Charlie.
He is survived by his boys: Duane Jr. (Gail), Robert, and Mark (Tonya) and his brothers Amos, Charlie (Betty). He also leaves behind his grandchildren: AliciaAnne, Patrick (Kati), Brittany, Nick, Stephanie, and Heather; his great-grandchildren Sean, Sylvia, and Chandler; nephews and nieces: Troy, Lance, Kim, Julie, and Roger and many friends.
Snook was preceded in death by his wife Sandy, who died on March 30, 1999, his son Scott, who died on January 1, 2024, as well as his parents Phillip and MaryJane, and two brothers: Denny and Tom.
Snook attended school in Osakis. After school he enlisted and served in the Navy. After which he worked at 3M in Alexandria for over 25 years. He married in 1961, out of that marriage he welcomed 3 boys: Duane Jr, Scott, and Robert.
In January 1969 he married the love of his life, Sandy Golnitz, who preceded him in death in March 1999. Snook and Sandy made their home in Osakis and welcomed their son, Mark.
He was an avid fisherman and participant in many tournaments with his best friend, Glen Miller. Snook was a renowned wood carver of duck decoys, spearing decoys, and fish. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, working on his street-rod, and carving. He spent over 20 years stock-car racing across Minnesota and was a devoted member of the Osakis Car Club; Central Lakes Cruzers.
Visitation will be held Osakis Lutheran Church in Osakis, MN on Saturday, March 16 from 11-12, where the Funeral Service will be held at 12 with internment to follow, with military honors at West Evergreen Cemetery in Osakis, MN.
