Esther Moore, age 86 of Osakis, passed into the peace of Heaven on Friday, September 18, 2009 at the Community Memorial Home in Osakis.
On February 28, 1923 in Westport Township, Pope Co, MN a beautiful baby daughter was born to Sam and Elma (VanVickle) Jensen. Esther was a graduate of Brooten High School with the class of 1941 and received the Mixing Spoon award for congeniality of her high school class. On June 10, 1941 Esther was united in marriage to Wallace ��Bud�� Moore in Glenwood, MN. They moved to a farm in West Union Township, Todd County. Bud and Esther were the 4th Moore generation to farm this land which became a century farm while Esther helped farm it. She also did home health care for family and friends throughout her life. In 2001 due to health reasons, she moved off of the farm to an assisted living apartment in Osakis.
Esther was a member of the United Methodist Church in Osakis and participated in all of the church functions. She was named United Methodist Person of the Year, served as treasurer of the ladies aide and was a Sunshine Lady. She was also a lifetime member of the Todd County Historical Society.
Besides her talents in the kitchen, Esther loved to crochet, dance and play cards. Many family and friends still snuggle under the beautiful afghans she made them. She also made rag rugs and numerous embroidery and sewing projects. Esther always had a large garden and enjoyed going to area dances and listening to music. She attended many local sports games and enthusiastically cheered on her children and grandchildren. Esther had a gift for hospitality and always had a warm smile for everyone she met. On her correspondence, she even signed her name with a smiley face. �� Esther was a kind and loving person who gave willingly of herself for others.
Esther is survived by her children, Loretta (Thomas) Chase of Elk River, Donald (Janice) Moore of Osakis, Robert (Linda) Moore of Elk River, Thomas H. (Susan) Moore of Osakis, Kathleen (Daniel) Blank of Carlos, Deborah (Craig) Cody of Osakis and Brenda (Michael) Kral of Osakis; 18 grandchildren; 26 great grandchildren; a brother, Einer (Beverly) Jensen of Brooten; two sisters, Elvie Jaeger of New Brighton and Elsie Kasinov of St. Anthony; many nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Bud in 1972; two brothers, Calvin & Edward Jensen.
Funeral services were held on Tuesday, September 22, 2009 at 11:00 am at the Osakis Lutheran Church with Rev. Lindell Quam and Rev. Alice Tobler officiating. Musicians were the Gordon Men��s Chorus accompanied by Sonja Starry and pianist, Carol Jean VanVranken. Interment is at the Kinkead Cemetery in Alexandria, MN. Honorary bearers were her granddaughters and the members of the United Methodist Church Women. Active casket bearers were her grandsons, Allen Finch, Ronald, Stanley, Adam, Thomas E. and Timothy Moore, Dennis Berg, Stewart Blank and Coleman Cody.
Arrangements were by the Roy-Hetland Funeral Home in Osakis, MN.
