Evelyn Nelson

Evelyn Nelson, age 87 of Osakis passed into eternal rest on Saturday evening, July 12, 2008 at the Douglas County Hospital in Alexandria, MN.
Evelyn Marie Dahlberg was born on March 4, 1921 in Belle River Township to Andrew and Sophie (Walters) Dahlberg. She graduated from high school in Alexandria and then attended St. Cloud Teacher's College. She returned and taught country school in the Douglas County area for over ten years. On December 29, 1942 Evelyn was united in marriage to Ruben Nelson at St. Nicholas Catholic Church in Belle River, MN. The Nelson's farmed for many years and Evelyn enjoyed life in the country raising her family and helping on the farm. Each year she raised over 300 chickens, in addition to tending a large garden, canning and cooking for her husband and four sons. Evelyn was very devoted to her family and her Lord and was an active member of the Immaculate Conception parish in Osakis. She was a member of the church choir, taught catechism classes, belonged to the Christian Mothers Confraternity and also sewed quilts and clothing with the St. Elizabeth Mission group. In her retirement years, Evelyn enjoyed traveling to visit her family and also liked to play cards, board games and work on puzzles. She was a kind and generous mother, grandma and sister who will be dearly missed.
Evelyn is survived by her children, DeWayne (Debra) Nelson of Alexandria, Donald Nelson of Los Angeles, CA, Allan Nelson of Madison, Alabama and Gerald (Pat) Nelson of Nelson, MN; 5 grandchildren; 4 great grandchildren; a brother, Donald (Doris) Dahlberg of St. Louis, MO and a sister, Corrine 'Corey' (Russell) Swanson of Aurora, CO; nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Ruben in 1995 and a brother, Clinton 'Bud' Dahlberg.
A Mass of Resurrection will be held for Evelyn on Thursday, July 17, 2008 at 1:00 pm at the Immaculate Conception church with Fr. Ralph Zimmerman officiating. Musicians are the church funeral choir. Interment is at the Calvary Catholic Cemetery in Osakis. Honorary pallbearers are the ladies of the St. Elizabeth Mission Group. Active pallbearers are Heather Weber, Ryan, Justin, Hanni and Eric Nelson, John Anderson.
Arrangements are handled by the Roy-Hetland Funeral Home in Osakis, MN.
