Life History for Evelyn Rasmusen
Evelyn Rasmusen, age 93 of Osakis passed away on Saturday, March 2 at the Community Memorial Home in Osakis, MN.
On April 3, 1919 a baby girl was born to John and Anna (Carlson) Langlie in Napolean, (Logan County) North Dakota. After her schooling, Evelyn went to work as a housekeeper. On April 10, 1946 Evelyn married Sam Rasmusen at the Long Bridge Lutheran Church in Little Sauk, MN. They farmed for a time near Bertha, MN and then moved to a farm in rural Osakis. In 1965, they bought a home in Osakis and for over 26 years Evelyn worked primarily in the housekeeping department at the Community Memorial Home in Osakis. She was a member of the Long Bridge Church and belonged to the Ladies Aide. She also was a member of the CMH Auxiliary for many years.
Evelyn was an excellent cook, often baking five loaves of bread twice a week for her family to enjoy. She was also known for her homemade donuts. Evelyn had a green thumb and she gardened all the years on the farm. Each season the Rasmusens raised a huge field of sweet corn to share with neighbors, family and friends. They also raised cucumbers for a pickle company for many years. In addition to gardening and canning, Evelyn enjoyed traveling, crocheting, reading and taking Sunday drives around the countryside or going to area threshing bees and corn fests. She also liked music (especially polka tunes) and enjoyed visiting with neighbors and friends over a cup of coffee and some homemade cookies. She was a loving mother and grandma who will be dearly missed by her family and friends.
Evelyn is survived by her children, Sandra (Bob) Ziegenhagen of Gulfport, Mississippi, Odean (Kay) Rasmusen of Osakis, Glenna (Dennis) Stark of Grand Junction, CO, Gene (Connie) Rasmusen of Osakis, Mary (Mike) Redetzke of Osakis, Rodney (Mardi) Rasmusen of Eagle Bend, MN; 14 grandchildren; 20 great grandchildren; 4 great great grandchildren; six nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her parents, John and Anna Langlie, her husband, Sam Rasmusen in 2006 and a sister, Alice Gardner.
Funeral services for Evelyn will be held on Wednesday, March 6, 2013 at 11:00 am at the Long Bridge Lutheran Church in rural Little Sauk with Rev. Steve Hilde officiating. Organist is Ione Johnson and soloist is Dana Hetland. Interment is at the church cemetery. Honorary pall bearers are Kyle Alsleben, Holly Blume, Heather Rolin and Lori Rasmusen. Active bearers are Darren Redetzke, Mitch Rasmusen, Chad Redetzke, Travis Redetzke, Jon Stark and Dave Blume.
