Life History for Everett Anderson

He was raised on this farm and attended Dist. 68 Country School for seven years. His family moved to Osakis and then Everett went to Osakis Public School. For a time he went to work for his father hauling cattle. This was during World War II and the other cattle drivers had been drafted to help in the war, so at the young age of sixteen, Everett was hauling cattle in a semi trailer by himself to the stockyards in South St. Paul. When his father sold his cattle trucks, Everett moved to South St. Paul to work. On February 27, 1943 Everett married his sweetheart, Shirley E. Magnuson. They lived in St. Paul until May of 1944 when Everett joined in the defense of his country and served as a member of the United States Marines. He was sent to the South Pacific where he worked refueling fighter planes and bombers. He reached the rank of Sergeant and moved from island to island sometimes working 24 hours straight fueling planes when the atomic bombs were dropped on Hiroshima and Nagasaki which ended the war. He returned home and went to work for Milquist Oil Co. delivering fuel to the houses in town and to the farmers around Osakis. About a year later, Milquist sold his business and then Everett went to work for seventeen years for an area supply company. Next he went into business for himself running Anderson Tractor Repair for over 40 years. He retired at the age of 80 because of an injury from a car accident. He damaged his right shoulder and could no long lift his arm to work.
Through the years, Everett and Shirley were blessed with five children.
