Gary Ellingson, age 80 of Osakis, MN passed away on Thursday, September 12, 2019 at the Allomere Health Systems in Alexandria, MN.
Gary Michael Ellingson was born on February 1, 1939 in Minneapolis, MN to Melvin and Dorothy (Thom) Ellingson. He graduated from Richfield High School with the Class of 1957 and soon after served his country in the U S Navy. On February 23, 1962 Gary was married to Margaret Byrns in Black River Falls, WI. After twelve years designing in the Decorative Products division at 3 M, the Ellingsons moved to the Osakis area. Gary worked at Al’s Bait in Osakis and as a natural entrepreneur, Gary created pine furnishing that were sold from their shop in downtown Osakis known as the Curiosity Shop. In addition to his woodworking skills, Gary also enjoyed doing handyman projects, working in his garden and getting out fishing or duck hunting. He was an avid Vikings football fan and enjoyed watching all types of sports. He was a wiz at completing puzzles and liked to tackle the New York Times crossword puzzles.
He is survived by his wife, Margaret Ellingson of Osakis; a son, Scott Ellingson of Osakis and a daughter and son-in-law, Anne (Robert) Lea of St. Paul, MN. Gary is preceded in death by his parents and siblings, Barbara Cass, Diane May and William Ellingson.
