Life History for Genevieve Schmidt
Genevieve Schmidt, age 90 of Osakis, formerly of West St. Paul, passed into her new life with her Lord Jesus on Thursday, July 11, 2013 at the Community Memorial Home in Osakis, MN where she was a resident.
On June 27, 1923 a darling baby girl was born to Anthony and Annie (Carlsen) Olsen in Hermansville, Michigan. She moved with her family to Frederick, Wisconsin and grew up there. As a young woman, Gen worked in the Twin Cities doing airplane assembly and manufacturing during WWII. Gen was married to Raymond H. Schmidt, Sr. on June 7th, 1942. They lived in West St. Paul and raised their two sons. Gen worked for many years at Brown & Bigelow in the shipping and receiving department for promotional products. She was a faithful caregiver to her disabled husband while finding time to run a consignment store out of her garage which helped many less fortunate families in the community. She joined the Osakis Lutheran Church upon her retirement move to Osakis in 2006.
Some of Gen's favorite past times included taking trips with her sisters. They liked to refer to themselves as 'the golden girls.' They took trips by car, bus and train. She also liked to entertain for various holidays and was a talented crafter who especially liked making bows. She enjoyed tending her flower garden and loved to be with her many grandchildren. Blessed be her memory.
Genevieve is survived by her sons, Raymond (Sue) Schmidt, Jr. of St. Paul Park, MN and Jerry (Bridget) Schmidt of Osakis; 6 grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren; 8 great great grandchildren; a sister, Elsie (Al) Forsmen of Inver Grove Heights,MN; many nieces, nephews and godchildren.
Preceding her in death are her parents, her husband, Raymond Schmidt, Sr., a brother, Tony Olsen and sisters, Dorothy Sieben and Louise Witt.
