Genevieve Lillian was born on April 29, 1931 in West Union Township, the first born Michael and Lillian (Kortan) Ahrens. She attended Eagle Bend High School and graduated in 1949. After graduation, Gen married Donald Hoosline on May 14, 1949. After their marriage the couple moved to St. Paul where they lived for 3 years. In 1952, they moved to Osakis where they raised their eight children.
Gen helped support the family by waitressing at the Sportsman Cafe for 25 years and also cleaning at the First National Bank for many years. In 1981 Don passed away.
Gen married Robert Thieschafer on April 29, 1989. After their marriage they moved to Sauk Centre and wintered in Texas for 19 years. In their later years they moved to Long Prairie, MN and in 2022 they moved to West View Assisted Living in Osakis.
Gen was very involved in the community. She was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Osakis, St. John's Vianney in Round Prairie, Christian Mothers, the Osakis Ambulance for 17 years. She enjoyed dancing, embroidery, traveling, a trip to the casino, and spending time with family and friends.
Genevieve passed away peacefully on Monday, September 16, 2024 at the age of 93. She is survived by her husband, Robert (Bob), children: Darrel (Sharon) Hoosline, Diane Nieken, Muriel (Larry) McJunkin, Russell (Joni) Hoosline, Donna (Mike) Koep, David Hoosline; daughter-in-law, Sandi Hoosline; stepchildren: Donna Mertes, Gail (Jim) Joerger, Marion (Tim) Ruegemer, Jim (Brenda) Thieschafer, John (Janet) Thieschafer, Jane (Steve) Stassen; 19 grandchildren, step grandchildren, many great grandchildren; brother: Henry (Ardith) Ahrens; sisters: Bertha Leagjeld, Linda (Chris) Carlson; sister-in-law, Crystal Ahrens along with numerous extended relatives, nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Donald Hoosline, sons: Jim and Dick Hoosline; grandson: Darrin Koep; brother, Donald Ahrens; sister: Helen Henry; step-sons, David and Glen Thieschafer; son-in-law, John Nieken, step son-in-law, Ken Mertes; brothers-in-law, Jordan Henry & Don Leagjeld; Hoosline sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law: George and Gladys Beach, Ed and Myrtle Burnt, Wince and Goldie Klausman, Ruby and Wally Nelson.
Visitation will be held on Monday, September 23, 2024, 4:00 – 7:00 PM at the Roy Hetland Funeral Home. Visitation will continue on Tuesday, September 24, 2024, 10:00 – 11:00 AM at St. John Vianney Church in Round Prairie, Mn with a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 AM. Burial will be at Calvary Cemetery in Osakis.
