LIFE HISTORY OF HAROLD URBAN
Harold Urban, age 84 of Osakis went to be with the Lord on Monday, June 23, 2008 at the Community Memorial Home in Osakis, MN.
Harold William Urban was born on January 30, 1924 in Nashville Township, MN to Wilhelm and Ella (Burmeister) Urban. He grew up on a farm and after schooling entered the U.S. Navy, serving his country during WWII. After his time in the service, Harold returned and worked for Howard Boler on his farm in rural Truman. On Valentine's Day, February 14, 1945 Harold was united in marriage to Audrey Lofstuen in Winnebago, MN. Harold operated the Urban Machine Shop in Lewisville, MN from 1950 - 1963 and also served as a volunteer fireman. He was also a member of the American Legion. When he sold the shop in 1963, Harold relocated his family to a farm in rural Osakis. In addition to farming, Harold also did carpentry work. He was an active member of Redeemer Lutheran in Osakis and St. Paul's Lutheran in Alexandria, MN. In his later years, Harold worked on various restoration projects at Just Like Grandma's in Osakis, restoring the beautiful bed and breakfast and doing all of the various building and restoration projects that were needed. This part time job turned into sixteen years of employment.
Harold most enjoyed spending time with his family, children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. No one ever left Harold's place without a big warm, comforting hug. He also loved to go hunting and fishing, do gardening and woodworking, reading and feeding the birds. He was always creating projects in his workshop and made many beautiful bird houses and other projects to share with his family and friends.
He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Audrey Urban of Osakis; 4 children, Judy (Don) Lardy of Buffalo, Diane Peterson of Alexandria, Susan (Tom) Moore and Mike (Gwyn Buehre) Urban, all of Osakis; 12 grandchildren; 18 great grandchildren; a sister, Lorraine Mielke of Hutchinson, MN; nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends.
Preceding him in death are his parents and a brother, Lester Urban.
Funeral services for Harold will be held on Thursday, June 26, 2008 at 1:00 pm at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Alexandria with Rev. Michael Neumann officiating. Organist is Jolene Sabrowsky. Interment is at the Gordon Pleasant Hill Cemetery in rural Osakis with honorary casketbearers being his granddaughters, Tami Beran, Katie Otto, Anne Forde, Kim Moore, Traci Heidebrink and Holly Buehre. Active bearers were his grandsons, Nick and Buck Lardy, Trent Graf, Tom and Tim Moore and Wyatt Urban.
Arrangements are handled by the Roy-Hetland Funeral Home in Osakis, MN.
