Life History for Harriet Overvig
Harriet Overvig, age 85 of Osakis died Sunday, September 14, 2008 at the Community Memorial Home in Osakis where she had been a resident.
Harriet Jane Johnson was born on May 25, 1923 in Little Sauk Township, Todd Co., MN to John M. and Hulda (Brakken) Johnson. She graduated from Osakis High School in 1941 and went to work in Minneapolis after her schooling. She married Harold Overvig on March 9, 1946 at the Salem Lutheran Church in rural Osakis. They lived and worked in Columbia Heights, MN where Harriet was an employee at Parker-Hunnifin Consolidated. The Overvig's retired to a home near Maple Lake and later moved into the Manor Apartments in Osakis.
Harriet was a lifelong member of the Salem Lutheran Church. She helped sing in the church choir and also belonged to the Ladies Aid.
Harriet had many different past times, but especially enjoyed gardening, golfing, bowling and playing cards. Her favorite card game was cribbage. She also enjoyed traveling and looked forward to the annual trips she and Harold took to his yearly Army reunions. Many will remember Harriet for her post card letter writing. She often sent friends and family post card updates of their travels and adventures.
Harriet is survived by her brother, Johnny Johnson of Osakis; four sisters-in-law, Irene Johnson, Blance Konzak, Hazel Ecklund and Alice Olson and one brother-in-law, Orville (Betty) Overvig; many nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Harold on January 28, 2008 and brother, Wallace Johnson.
Funeral services were held on Friday, September 19, 2008 at 11:00 am at the Salem Lutheran church in rural Osakis with Rev. Steve Hilde officiating. Organist was Ione Johnson with a solo sung by Dana Hetland. Interment was at the church cemetery with casketbearers Bennie Redning, Gary Mikkelson, Norman Anderson, Randy Ecklund, Terry Hansen and Merlyn Olson.
Arrangements were handled by the Roy-Hetland Funeral Home, Osakis, MN.
