Life History for Helmer Wright
Helmer Wright, age 86 of Alexandria passed away on Monday, March 1, 2010 at the Knute-Nelson Memorial Home in Alexandria, MN.
Helmer Fremont Wright was born on October 19, 1923 in Sanborn, MN to Fremont and Johanna (Yungerberg) Wright. At the age of nineteen, he moved with his family to Lake Lillian, MN. He served his country during WWII in the US Army. He served in the Philippines and Japan and received the Army of Occupation Medal, the WWII Victory Medal and the Asiatic Pacific Campaign Medal. He was honorably discharged on December 10, 1946. After his time in the service, Helmer returned home and on April 18, 1949 was united in marriage to Ramona Smith in Lake Lillian, MN. They farmed near Lake Lillian until 1956 when they bought a farm and moved to rural Osakis, MN.
Helmer was a lifetime member of the Alexandria VFW and belonged to the D.A.V. (Disabled American Veterans.) He had many hobbies and interests. Some of his favorites included gardening, hunting and fishing. He also enjoyed raising ducks and chickens. Helmer was a man of great humor who enjoyed playing games, cards and singing silly songs to his children and grandkids. He was a kind and loving husband, father, grandpa and brother who will be dearly missed by his family and friends.
Helmer is survived by his wife, Ramona Wright of Alexandria; children, Helmer O. (Jean) Wright of Alexandria, Nathan (Mary) Wright of Phoenix, AZ, Jeffrey (Kathy) Wright of Mounds, OK, Candice Herzog of Osakis, Karen (Ron) Propeck of Bemidji; 17 grandchildren; 37 great grandchildren; a brother, Arthur (Verdella) Wright of Willmar, MN; many nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents, a stillborn daughter and a great grandson, Tayib Nash; 2 brothers, Vincent and Gerald Wright; 4 sisters, Leoma Wersal and Augusta Linn and two infant sisters.
Memorial services were held on Friday, March 5, 2010 at 11:00 am at the New Life Christian Church in Alexandria with Rev. John Talpin officiating. Musicians are Sue Ronning, Dana Hetland and grandson Aaron Wright with original composition written in tribute to his grandfather. Grandsons Matt Wright and Adam Propeck provided readings. Honorary pallbearers were his grandsons Ian, Drew, Ben, Aaron & Matt Wright; Zach, Luke, Logan & Damien Herzog, and Adam & Seth Propeck. Military honors were provided by the Alexandria VFW Post. Inurnment was at the MN State Veterans Cemetery in Little Falls, MN.

Arrangements were made by the Roy-Hetland Funeral Home in Osakis, MN.
