Inez Leona Peterson was born on a farm north of Osakis in Osakis Township, Douglas Co, MN to Marcus and Anna (Erickson) Clay on April 27, 1919. On January 30, 1939 she was married to Forrest Clay at Mason City, Iowa. They had five children.
Inez and Forrest started the Little Store grocery on the east end of Osakis in 1947 selling it ten years later. They then bought a resort on Maple Lake that the children could help manage and Forrest also took on carpentry work. When they sold the resort in 1970, Inez took over doing the bookwork for Forrest's construction company as he had a crew of men working for him. When they retired in 1980, they began traveling the country in their motor home and spending their winters down south. They moved into the Manor Apartments in Osakis in 1990.
Inez was a member at Osakis Lutheran Church and was a former member of the Osakis Women's Association and the Moose Lodge. She volunteered many hours of time at the Community Memorial Home and at church and was inducted into the Hall of Fame at CMH in 1996.
Inez loved people and socializing and taking long walks. She enjoyed going fishing and also played cards, the accordian and the guitar.
Inez is survived by her children, Nancy (Ray) Kuckenbecker of Rogers, Bill (JoAnn) Clay of Long Prairie, Susan (Dale Thunstadt) Vosen of Little Falls, Sallie Habedank of Waite Park, Rex (Judy) Clay of Long Prairie; 17 grandchildren; 17 gt. grandchildren; 2 gt. gt. grandchildren; many nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Forrest in 2005, a gt. granddaughter, Kelsey Hauge, 2 sons-in-law, Robert Vosen and Les Habedank, a sister, Elsie Beug and a brother, Roy Peterson.
Funeral services were held on Saturday, December 30 at 11:00 am at the Osakis Lutheran Church with Rev. Ron Calvert officiating. Interment was at the Gordon Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Osakis with his grandchilren and their spouses as honorary pallbearers. Active bearers were Ryan, Tyler and Kevin Clay, Guy Habedank, April Young, Todd & Kevin Engle and Scott Kuckenbecker.
