Irene Booth

On October 27, 1929 twin girls were born to Victor and Gertrude (Lavander) Larson in Lake Lillian, MN. They named one Irene and one, Eileen. They grew up and graduated from Litchfield High School with the Class of 1948. After taking some nursing courses, Irene began working at the Litchfield Hospital. On March 26, 1950 Irene married her soul mate, Melvin Booth in Litchfield, MN. After farming for a year near Lake Lillian, the Booths moved to Montana to farm. They returned in a couple years to the family farm in Lake Lillian, and in 1954 they bought a farm south of Osakis, MN. Irene soon was hired at the Douglas County Hospital in Alexandria and worked there for 39 years, retiring in 1993. She then moved to Hutchinson for a time before returning to the Garfield area. In 2011 Irene moved into Alexandria, MN. She was a former member of the Osakis Lutheran Church and was now a member at St. Luke's Lutheran in Garfield, MN.
Irene was a women of many talents who enjoyed baking, gardening (especially a variety of flowers) and quilting. She made regular summer road trips to Montana to visit with family and liked to try her luck at the casinos. She was a kind and caring mother and sister who will be dearly missed by her family and friends.
Irene entered the peace of Heaven on Tuesday, Nov. 25, 2014 from the Knute- Nelson Memorial Home in Alexandria, MN at the age of 85 years.
She is survived by her daughter, Sharon (Robert Steiner) Booth of Melbourne, FL; a brother, Gordon Larson of Litchfield; daughter-in-law, Sharon Booth of Alexandria; sister-in-law, Leona (Jim) Rust of Florence, AZ; many nieces and nephews.
Preceding her in death are her parents, her husband, Melvin in 1992; her son, John in 2011; 4 brothers, Vernon and Alan Larson and twin infants; 2 sisters, Eileen Paul (her twin) and Corine Rettig.
Funeral services for Irene will be held on Monday, December 1, 2014 at 11:00 am at St. Luke's Lutheran Church in Garfield with Rev. David Gran officiating. Musicians are organist, Greg Kapphahn and soloist, Dana Hetland. Interment is at the Grove City Cemetery in Grove City, MN. Visitation hours are from 4 - 7 pm on Sunday evening, Nov. 30 at the Roy-Hetland Funeral Home in Osakis and one hour before the service at the church on Monday.
