Jean Krause

LIFE HISTORY FOR JEAN KRAUSE
Jean Krause, age 80 of Osakis went to her eternal home on July 27, 2009 from the Community Memorial Home in Osakis where she was a resident.
On May 12, 1929 a little girl was born to Arthur S. and Edna (Kallstrom) Eastman in Belle River Township, Douglas County, MN. She was baptized Jean Kathryn Eastman at the Fahlun Lutheran Church in Nelson, MN. Jean attended country schools District 40 and 41 through the fifth grade and then went to Osakis Public School when her family moved into town. She was confirmed at Osakis Lutheran Church and was a graduate of OHS with the class of 1947. Jean spent three years as a waitress and working at a dry cleaners in Grand Forks, ND before returning to live in Osakis. On January 16, 1957 she was united in marriage to Levi Krause at the Osakis Lutheran Church. In addition to being members there, Jean also volunteered as a Sunday School teacher and was a teacher and superintendant for the religious education program. She was a member of the Miriam Circle and also served the church by sewing baptismal towels for many years. Because of her talent at the sewing machine, Jean was often asked by people to make bridesmaid and wedding dresses.
Some of her other interests included gardening, canning and going golfing or fishing. She enjoyed music and participated in both the junior and senior choirs. Bowling and playing cards were some of the wintertime activities she enjoyed. Jean's greatest joy, however, was spending time with her family and grandchildren.
As a volunteer at the Osakis Senior Center and as a member of the Sauk Centre Legion Auxiliary, Jean spent many hours helping others. She believed her faith should be lived out and was a wonderful example of how we can use our time and talents for the good of others.
Jean is survived by her son, Larry (Anita) Witthoeft of Pine Island, MN; a daughter, Barbara Borth of St. Cloud; 7 grandchildren; 2 great, grandchildren; 2 sisters, Francis Erickson of Moorpark, CA and Ardelle Volkman of Sauk Centre. She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Levi in 1998, a daughter, Ruth Brown and grandsons, Jason and Matthew Brown; sons-in-law, Dennis Borth and Terry Brown and also a sister, Doris Jacobsen.
Funeral services for Jean were held on Thursday, July 30 at 11 am at the Osakis Lutheran Church with Rev. Ron Calvert officiating. Musicians were organist, Pat Converse and soloist, Dana Hetland. Interment was at the West Evergreen Cemetery in Osakis with honorary pallbearers being Ralph Swor, Ken Volkman, Dallas Triebenbach, Len Steffl, Fritz Jacobsen, Jim Staples, Jim Peters, Bob Kallstrom and Charles Angus. Active bearers were Eric Witthoeft, Lyle Borth, Ron Jacobsen, Rick Volkman, Dave Christiansen, Royce Aardahl.
