Jesse Johnson

Jesse Johnson, age 85 of Osakis passed away on Sunday afternoon, April 14, 2019 at the Knute Nelson Home in Alexandria, MN.

On June 19, 1933 in Gordon Township, Todd County, MN a son was born to Jesse and Lula (Averill) Johnson.  They named his Jesse Jay and he was welcomed home by his three sisters, Roma, Theone and Irene.  Jesse grew up on the family farm and attended country school.  He was hired by the local Osakis Silo Company and worked there for many years, retiring in 1998.  In addition, he worked the family farm and also did carpentry work.  On July 21, 1963, Jesse married Sandra Johnson and they raised one daughter.  Jesse was a lifelong member of the Salem Lutheran Church in rural Osakis.

Life in the country fit Jesse perfectly as he loved to be outdoors.  He had many hobbies, including hunting small game, target shooting and tinkering with his collection of guns.  Other past times he enjoyed were square dancing, roller skating, snowmobiling and riding Harley Davidson motorcycles.  He moved in with his daughter and her family in 1993 and enjoyed watching his three granddaughters grow and start their own families.  He looked forward to the annual Pioneer Days in Albany each year and watching the birds at the bird feeders each season.   He was a kind and gentle man who appreciated all that God had blessed him with.  He will be dearly missed by his family and many friends.

He will live on in the hearts of his daughter and family, Konnie & Lee Christopherson of Osakis; granddaughters, Ashley (Nick) Nordberg, Brittany (Justin) Wyas, Cheyenne Christopherson; great grandchildren, Noland and Ev Nordberg; several nieces and nephews.

Preceding him in death are his parents; his wife, Sandra Johnson; sisters, Theone Redning, Roma Johnson and Irene Johnson.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, April 20, 2019 at 11:00 am at the Salem Lutheran Church in Osakis with Rev. John Hopper officiating.  Organist is Ione Johnson.  Interment is at the Salem Cemetery with honorary bearers, Mike Johnson, Bennie Redning, Sr., Jim Johnson, John Johnson, Dennis Johnson, Ken Johnson, Dale Massman, Ron Traulich and Roger Neumann, Sr.  Active bearers are Karl Larson, John Hallquist, Paul Matthys, Howard Haider, Bill Johnson and Randy Neumann.
