Joann Serger

Joann Lenore Serger, 66, passed away unexpectedly at the Fargo Sanford Medical Center Hospital on Tuesday, June 25, 2024. 

Joann was born on September 26, 1957, at St. Mary Hospital in Alexandria, Minnesota to Joseph and Inez (Powell) Serger. Joann was a native of Osakis and lived there her entire life. 

Joann was baptized on October 13, 1957, at Immaculate Conception Church by Pastor James Mohn. Her godparents were Roger and Shirley Quinn.

She went to St. Agnus Catholic School up to the end of 8th grade. She graduated from Osakis High School with the class of 1976. She was also a contestant for Miss Osakis in high school. 

Joann was a local author from Osakis. The title of her book was “Cat Poems.” Joann loved cats. Joann’s first cat she had for 14 years named Sammie. Her second cat was Snicker Boots. She walked her cat on a leash. She had Snicker Boots for 12 years. 

Joann liked drawing, listening to music, attending renaissance festivals, reading, and writing. She loved cat movies, with Garfield being her favorite. She enjoyed watching Frankie Avalon sing “Beauty School Dropout” from the movie Grease. She was a very sapient woman. Joann kept up on the politics of the day. Joann was a very thoughtful women and had a soft spot in her heart for her pets. 

Joann is survived by her siblings, brother David (Rocky) Serger of Osakis, Minnesota and sister Susan (Courtney) Shy of Detroit, Michigan; nieces Janice and Angela Shy, Christine (Dalante) Lee; 2 grandnephews Jordan Dawson and Caden Johnson; 4 grandnieces, Destiny Trinity, Charity Lee, and Affinity Johnson.

Joann was preceded in death by her parents Joseph and Inez Serger and her 3 brothers Jerry, Jerome, and Dale Serger.
