Joseph Edward Tegels

Joseph Edward Tegels, 95, Osakis, MN passed away on April 4, 2024, at Galeon Senior Living. He was born on August 17, 1928, to John and Veronica Tegels. Graduating from Osakis High School marked the beginning of Joe's educational journey. However, his real passion lay in cultivating the land and caring for his livestock.
 
Joe led a remarkable life as a dedicated farmer for 80 years, specializing in dairy farming from 1961 until 1990. His commitment to agriculture was unwavering and admirable. He also actively participated in the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church and was an esteemed original member of the Knights of Columbus.
 
Described as a sweet and considerate man, Joe prioritized the needs of others above his own. He had a deep love for animals and exemplified strong Christian values throughout his life. Joe's devotion to his family was evident through the testimonies of his children who considered him and his beloved wife Phyllis as the best parents they could have asked for.
 
In addition to his farming career, Joe found joy in various hobbies and interests. He took pleasure in watching Minnesota Gophers sports, particularly football games. Traveling around the country on long road trips with Phyllis brought him immense happiness, along with indulging in his favorite books.
 
One of Joe's proudest accomplishments was marrying Phyllis Cabanowski on March 31, 1951. Together, they built a loving and enduring partnership that stood the test of time. Joe's legacy will continue to live on through the cherished memories shared by his surviving family members and friends.
 
Joe is survived by his children, Veronica (Allen) Kallio, Roxanne (Stephen) Blanchard, Janice (Rahn) Peterson, Joanne Tegels, Monica Tegels and Joe Tegels; 4 grandchildren; 6 great-grandchildren; and his lifelong friend Marilyn Grundman.

A Memorial Service to honor and remember Joe will be held at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Osakis on April 9, 2024. Visitation will take place from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM followed by a Memorial Service from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM. Inurnment will take place at Calvary Cemetery following the service.
