Life History for Judy -
Early Palm Sunday, April 5, 2020 a beautiful soul left this world when Judy Thornbloom passed into her new life at the age of 59 years from her home in Osakis, MN. She was born in Alexandria, MN, the youngest of the thirteen children born to Alfred and Dorothy (Solyntjes) Kral. They named her Judith Karen and her birthday was April 30, 1960. She grew up on the family farm near Lake Osakis and graduated from Osakis High School with the Class of 1978. After attending Alexandria Technical College, Judy traveled out West for a time doing oil and gas exploration. She moved back to Osakis in 1985 and waitressed at the Holiday Inn in Alexandria. On April 25, 1987 Judy married her soul mate, Rick ‘Radar’ Thornbloom at St. Mary’s Church in Alexandria, MN. When Mary George opened the City Café in Osakis, Judy worked there and honed her cooking skills until the opportunity arose to purchase the Gopher Pizza building. She and her sister, Alice partnered to open A J ‘s Café. Judy embraced her new business and worked tirelessly for many years providing patrons with delicious home-cooked meals in a warm and relaxing atmosphere. Whenever help or donations were needed for local charity fundraisers, Judy was willing to give of her time, talents and food donations. When she sold the café in 2006 Judy began a new job as the head cook for the Osakis Public School lunch programs. She cooked, prepped and managed many changes over her twelve years cooking for the school as the school lunch programs evolved. Most recently, Judy was working in food service for the Nelson Gables Senior Living in Alexandria, MN.
Judy was a member of the Osakis Lutheran Church, the VFW Auxiliary, the Osakis Chamber of Commerce, having served on its board and also other local volunteer groups, such as the Backpack Attack (which provides food and snacks for local children in need.) Her generous heart could never turn down a chance to be of help and volunteering became second nature to her. She also had many hobbies and interests. Motorcycle trips with her husband and friends was one of her favorites, as was camping, swimming, gardening (esp. flowers) and traveling, especially their annual winter trip to Mexico. The activity she treasured the most, however was doting on her precious grandchildren, whom she loved so dearly. They brought a sparkle to her eye and a smile to her face. She loved to spend time with them, spoiling them with treats and home-cooked goodies. Judy was immensely proud of her husband, children and their families. Her legacy of love will live on through them.
She is survived by her loving husband of 32 years, Radar Thornbloom of Osakis; her children, Tim (Jessie) Thornbloom and Britta (Robbie) Alverson, all of Osakis; Chris (Katrina) Rossman; her grandchildren, Alexis and Zoey Thornbloom, Marlow and Sawyer Alverson, Jordan and Sabrina Rossman; twelve siblings, Mary Louise (Joe) Forst of New Ulm, MN, Jim Kral, Rita (Larry) Marthaler, Mike (Brenda) Kral, all of Osakis, Polly (Norman) Kallhoff of Lebanon, OR, Jerry (Lynn) Kral, Steve (Val) Kral, Alfred, Jr., (Carol) Kral, Dottie (Tim) Norton, all of Osakis, Monica (Ray) Jicha of Sparta, TN, Alice (Rick) Bladt of Mt.
