Julius 'Juke' Helmstetter, age 98 of Osakis died on Friday, May 18 at the Community Memorial Home in Osakis, MN.
Juke was born on March 31, 1909 to Julius and Louise (Mueller) Helmstetter in Carlos, MN. Juke was united in marriage to Irell Wagner in Carlos, MN on June 27, 1940. They farmed in Leslie Township for over 52 years, retiring to Osakis in 1992.
Juke served on the Clotho Creamery board for many years and was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church in Long Prairie and then the Redeemer Lutheran Church (once he moved to Osakis.)
Juke was known for his happy and calm disposition. He was always smiling and had a good sense of humor. He enjoyed taking rides in the country to look at the farm fields and see the wildlife and looked forward to raspberry-picking each summer. He liked to go ice fishing during the winter months and also played a lot of cards. Cheering for the Twins, going to dances or watching demolition derbies were other past times he enjoyed.
Juke is survived by his two children, Janet & Howard Lindemann of Osakis and Dennis & Susan Helmstetter of Minneapolis; 7 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren.
Preceding him in death are his parents, his wife, Irell in 1997, sisters, Louise Schultz, Sophie Kingston, Rosina Erickson, Christina Loegering and Freda Schultz.
Funeral services were held on Monday, May 21, 2007 at 2:00 pm at the Roy-Hetland Funeral Home in Osakis with Rev. Allan Craig officiating. Interment was at the Pleasant Valley Cemetery in Clotho, MN. Casketbearers were Mark Lindemann, Bryan, Joel and Steven Helmstetter, Robert Sankar and Alan Valentine.
Arrangements were with the Roy-Hetland Funeral Home in Osakis, MN.
