Kay Rasmusen

Kay Rasmusen, age 68 of Osakis passed away with her family by her side on Sunday, March 10, 2019 from the Bethany on the Lake care facility in Alexandria, MN.

Kay Ellen Maxwell was born on April 22, 1950 to John Leonard and Ellen (Benson) Maxwell in Alexandria, MN.  She grew up in Osakis and graduated from Osakis High School with the Class of 1968.  After high school Kay worked as a nursing assistant in Minneapolis and also came home to help care for her family members.  She then took a job working in Little Falls at a boat manufacturer.  On August 26, 1973, Kay married her soul mate, Odean Rasmusen at the Osakis Methodist Church.  In addition to raising their daughter, Heather, Kay also began working at the Community Memorial Home in Osakis.  Her kindness and caring for  the many residents she served there was a beautiful example to all and truly appreciated by those who counted on her.  Kay retired from CMH after over thirty years of dedicated employment.

Because her work required many hours being inside, when she was able, Kay enjoyed getting outdoors into the fresh air and beauty of nature.  She had a knack for growing things, and loved to raise a variety of flowers and work in her beautiful garden.  Nights spent curled up with a good book were other ways that she liked to relax and spend down time. Kay enjoyed time with her family, especially when spoiling her three grandsons.  Bonfires and fishing trips were happy summer past times.  She liked to make time for friends and enjoyed visiting over casual lunches or evening get togethers.  Kay made people feel that they were important and loved.  She will be dearly missed and lovingly remembered.

Kay will live on in the hearts of her family, especially her devoted husband of 45 years, Odean Rasmusen of Osakis; her daughter and son-in-law, Heather & Michael Rolin of Alexandria; three grandsons, Lance, Adam and Jack Rolin; brother and sisters, Robert Maxwell of Villard, Christine Granzow of Parkers Prairie, Kelly Maxwell of Fergus Falls; step siblings, Vern (Ramie) Larson of South Bend, IN, Sharon Johnson of St. Cloud, Mina Larson of Minneapolis, Joyce Cleary of CO; many nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her parents.

A Celebration of Life and memorial service will be held on Wednesday afternoon, March 13, 2019 at the Lillian Building in Osakis with Rev. Rich Fitzer as celebrant.  A gathering time will begin at 3:00 pm and a luncheon will follow the service.
