Lloyd Gettel

Lloyd Gettel, age 89 of Osakis, passed away on Thursday, August 9, 2012 at the Community Memorial Home in Osakis, MN.
Lloyd Bernard Gettel was born in Rapid City, South Dakota on November 17, 1922,one of eight children born to John and Josephine (Illies ) Gettel. Lloyd served his country during WWII as a fireman in the U S Army. He was united in marriage on October 3, 1949 in Sisseton, South Dakota to Valentina Mondry. They farmed near Ledgerwood, North Dakota for several years before moving to Milaca, MN in 1955. In 1968, Lloyd and Val purchased a farm west of Lake Osakis. In addition to crop and dairy farming, they also raised rabbits.
Lloyd was a member of the Immaculate Conception Church in Osakis, MN.
Some of his favorite hobbies included fishing, hunting and trapping and tending to his vegetable garden.
Lloyd is preceded in death by his wife, Valentina, a daughter, Diane and brothers, Ernest, Elmer, Clarence and Ervin Gettel and an infant sister.
He is survived by a son, Mike Gettel of Osakis; two sisters, Marcella Gettel of Ledgerwood, ND and Evelyn Nogowski of Omaha, NE: special friend, Anna Johnsrud of Alexandria.
A Mass of Resurrection will be held for Lloyd on Monday, August 13, 2012 at10:30am at the Immaculate Conception church in Osakis with Fr. Dick McGuire officiating. Interment is at the Calvary Cemetery in Osakis with pallbearers being Mark, Richard, and Lelsie Nogowski, Jim Kral, Jamie Julig, and Darrin Hensley. Honorary Pallbeareres being Ed Wiegert, Dick Weldele, Delbert Tenhoff, Doug Rutten, Dean Andrist, and Odean Rasmusen.
