Life History for Lois Hendricks
Lois Hendricks, age 92 of Osakis passed into her new life on January 8, 2014 from the Community Memorial Home in Osakis.
Lois Lily Mae Helms was born on November 24, 1921 in Hudson Township, Douglas County, MN to Charley and Lily (Olson) Helms. At the age of nineteen, Lois married Marvin Hendricks at the St. Nicholas Church parish house in Belle River on September 30, 1940. The couple started their life together by farming, moving to several different farms before settling on one just north of Osakis. Lois was a member of the St. Nicholas parish and then later joined the Immaculate Conception parish in Osakis. She also belonged to the Osakis Senior Citizen's Club and volunteered often to run their popcorn wagon.
Besides being a doting grandma, Lois also took pleasure in sewing, reading, playing cards and going fishing. She had a wonderful green thumb for growing things, and especially enjoyed tending her beautiful rose bushes. Traveling was another activity she enjoyed and over the years she took several trips to Alaska to visit her family there. She was a kind-hearted, happy mother, grandma and sister who will be fondly remembered by her family and friends.
Lois is survived by a son and a daughter, Roger (Rena Jackson) Hendricks of Portland, OR and Sharon (Philip) Messer of Osakis, MN; four grandchildren, Shannon (Mitch) Zarbok, Janine (Pete) Mies, Ariana (Nathan) Reed, Derek Messer; 8 great grandchildren, Marissa, Shania and Austin Zarbok, Elizabeth Mies, Emery, Lily, Amelia and Ethan Reed; two brothers, Roy (Hope) Helms and Orville "Sam" Helms, both of Fairbanks, AK; brother-in-laws, Robert Schlosser and Lloyd (Darlene) Hendricks, all of Osakis; sisters-in-law, Evelyn Miller of Washington, Vida Helms of Alaska, Glenda Helms of Colorado; many nieces and nephews.
Preceding her in death are her parents, her husband, Marvin in 2001; 2 daughters, Linda and Cynthia Hendricks; a granddaughter, Shari Hendricks; 2 sisters, Alice Brynjulfson and Lila Haverkamp; 2 brothers, Charles and Lloyd Helms.
A Mass of Resurrection will be held for Lois on Wednesday, January 15 at 10:30 am at St. Nicholas Catholic Church in Belle River with Fr. Andrew Marthaler officiating. Interment is at the church cemetery. Pallbearers are Derek Messer, Pete Mies, Jim Fearing, Mitch Zarbok, Nathan Reed and Bruce Jasmer.
Arrangements are with the Roy-Hetland Funeral Home in Osakis, MN.
