Lowell Ray Hanson, a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, and friend, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on April 18, 2025, at the age of 84. Born the son of Stanley and Loretta (Anderson) Hanson, on December 24, 1940, in Long Prairie, Minnesota, Buzz led a life characterized by hard work, love, and laughter.
A proud graduate of Long Prairie High School, Buzz married his high school sweetheart, Ann Maree Holm, on August 12, 1958. Together, they built a life on a farm just three miles east of Little Sauk, where they raised their two cherished children, Kevin and Cindy. Together, they cultivated the land, raised dairy cattle, and shared a love for the simple joys of rural life.
For 30 years, Buzz served with dedication on the road crew for the Todd County Highway Department, contributing his skills to the betterment of his community. Earlier in life, he also dabbled in carpentry, showcasing his knack for working with his hands.
Beyond work, Buzz loved the outdoors—fishing and hunting were passions that brought him closer to nature. He took great pleasure in long, slow drives through the countryside, where he would check out the lakes, fields, and wave hello to neighbors along the way. His laughter was infectious, and he had a talent for sharing a good joke, lighting up the hearts of those around him.
Football and baseball games captured his attention as he cheered for his teams, while evenings spent playing cards and visiting with family and friends held a special place in his heart. Buzz was a hardworking, kind, and loving man whose good sense of humor brightened any gathering.
Buzz is survived by his son, Kevin (Sandi) Hanson of Long Prairie, daughter, Cindy (Joe) Ecklund, of Osakis; five grandchildren, Misty Hanson, Tracy (Ted) Drayna, Shane Ecklund, Nikki (Derek) Pesta and Amanda Keller; four great grandchildren, Brinley Drayna, Zoey Drayna, Reeve Pesta, and Rilyn Pesta; devoted twin sister LoAnn Hoeschen; brother Richard Hanson, several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his wife, Ann Maree, parents, and his brother Jack Anderson.
Lowell “Buzz” Ray Hanson will be missed dearly but never forgotten, as he leaves behind a legacy of love, laughter, and generosity.
