Marie Hendricks was born on August 16, 1904 in Belle River Township, Douglas County, MN to Leonard and Mary (Trapen) Hendricks. She grew up on a farm and one of her first jobs was working at Herbergers Department Store in Osakis and also at the Rexall Drug Store. Marie was quite an athlete and not only competed with the girls basketball team in Morris, MN but was picked as a captain, as well.
On April 16, 1926 Marie married Arthur Maus and they made their home in Osakis. She enjoyed traveling with Art when he made his rounds as a supervisor for a road construction company. Marie also was busy running her own business selling Avon products for many years. She was often the top salesperson in her area and won several awards. She was a member of the Osakis Lutheran Church, the Sarah Circle and volunteered at the Memorial Home and at the Osakis Senior Center. She moved to the Heritage Apartments in her later years and then to the West View Assisted Living.
Marie had many hobbies, but was especially talented at hand crafts such as quilting, tatting, crocheting and knitting. She spent many hours helping quilt for the church missions and for other church fundraising projects. She liked to play cards, especially bridge and was an avid dancer and bowler as well. She loved her family and was a wonderful mother and grandmother. She will be lovingly remembered and dearly missed by all who knew her.
Marie is survived by her special friend, Norman Ellingson; a son-in-law, Harley Anderson of Osakis; a daughter-in-law, Shirley Maus of Cape Coral, FL; 3 grandchildren, Judy (Karl) Schoeler of Apple Valley, Kathy (Bill) Ludenia of Brainerd and Andrea Maus of St. Petersburg, FL; 2 great grandchildren, Kirsten (Tony) Pederson of Savage and Keith (Kristi Erickson) Schoeler of St. Paul; 2 great, great grandchildren, Kourtney and Daniel Pederson of Savage; a sister, Dorothy Loomis of Orono, MN.
She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Art in 1973, a daughter, Marvel Anderson in 2001 and her son, Arthur Maus in January of 07; her brothers, Bill, Ted and Pete Hendricks and sisters, Anna Anderson, Tina Manders and Lucy Byland.
Services for Marie were held on Thursday, March 8, 2007 at 10:30 am at the Osakis Lutheran Church with Rev. Ron Calvert officiating. Musicians were organist, Pat Converse and soloist, Darlene Hendricks. Interment was at the Lakeside Cemetery in Osakis and a lunch followed the committal service and was served at the church fellowship hall. Pallbearers were Karl Schoeler, Bill Ludenia, Tony and Kirsten Pederson, Keith Schoeler and Kristi Erickson. Honorary bearers were the Staff & Residents at the Community Memorial Home in Osakis, MN.
