Mary Hammer, age 85 of Bloomington, IN, passed away Monday, July 15 with her family be her side. She was born on May 27, 1928 in Roseville, MIchigan to Thomas and Genevieve (Heike) Baker. Mary loved to play bingo and also enjoyed reading, gardening and playing cards. She waited tables at the Moose Lodge and ran the breakfast kitchen for years with her husband, Merlin. She was a member of the Amvets Post 2000 in Bloomington, the Elks Lodge in New Mexico and she was also a lifetime member of the Osakis VFW Post Auxiliary. While Mary was small in stature ( at only 5' 2,) she had a larger than life personality. She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Merlin C. Hammer, Sr., one infant son, Michael Hammer and a son-in-law, Thomas Bir.
She is survived by her children, Mary Bir of Zion, IL, Faye (Richard) Sargent of Springville, IN, Theresa Anne (Brian Henry) Todd, Kathy Lynn (Cameron) Abbott, Lisa Hammer, Michelle 'Mickey' (Robert Stelle) Danette, all of Bloomington, Merlin Hammer, Jr, (Sarah Frietag) of Springville, IN, Jacqueline (Matthew) Kish of Lincoln Park, MI, Roger (Renea) Hammer of Springville, IN, Robert Hammer of Odon, IN and Jacob Hammer of Bloomington, IN; 5 sisters, Yvonne, Joanne, Patricia, Teeny and Donna; 4 brothers, Thomas, Lanny, Jerry and Sonnie; 22 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the St. Agnes School, 307 W 4th Av, Osakis, MN 56360 or the American Cancer Society.
