Mary Ellin Jorgensen, age 86 of Osakis passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, October 29, 2013 at the Douglas County Hospital in Alexandria, MN.
On April 16, 1927 a little girl was born to William R., II and Martha (Blatchley) French in Thief River Falls, MN. As a young girl, Mary Ellin moved with her family to the St. Cloud area. She was a graduate from the Sauk Rapids High School in 1945. Mary Ellin then moved to Minneapolis to do clerical work for the Hennepin County Social Services office. On October 2, 1948 she married her sweetheart, Paul Jorgensen at the Methodist Church in St. Cloud, MN. As Paul took teaching jobs, they lived in Montfort, WI and then Barnum, WI. At each location, Mary Ellin easily found work, first for a dental office, then as an accountant for the City of Moose Lake and also the Moose Lake Creamery. When the Jorgensen's moved to Osakis, MN in 1956, Mary Ellin was soon hired by the Osakis Review newspaper. She would later do book work for Al Oksness's business, the Gillis Rexall Drug Store and then finally as a teller for the First National Bank of Osakis.
Mary Ellin was very involved in her community. She belonged to the Osakis Lutheran Church and sang in the church choir for over thirty-five years. She was also a member of the local P.E.O. organization. Some of her hobbies included growing flowers and tending to the many shrubs and trees she planted around her yard, golfing, bowling, playing cards, reading and taking long walks. Mary Ellin also liked to sew and was an avid reader. She and her husband Paul were both very faithful Osakis High School sports fans and fine arts supporters.
Mary Ellin is survived by her son, David Jorgensen of Harding, MN and a daughter, Sara (Lonnie) Heffron of Carlos, MN; six grandchildren, Christie, Missy, Kayla, LeAnn, Dakota and Dylan; 7 great grandchildren; a brother, William (Judy) French, III of Osakis, MN; several nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Paul Jorgensen in 2012; two daughters, LeAnn in 1954 and Martha in 2010; two sisters, Shirley Ogden and Kathleen 'Kay' Repulski and a brother-in-law, Jim Doyle.
