Mary Saetre

Mary Saetre, age 72 of Long Prairie passed away unexpectedly at the Perham Health hospital in Perham, MN on Friday, October 30, 2020.

Mary Jane Conaway was born on June 1, 1948 in Richfield, MN to Vernon and Dorothy (Adelmann) Conaway.  As a young woman Mary married Gaylord Saetre at St. Peter’s Catholic Church in Richfield, MN on June 27, 1970 and this union would last for over half a century.  They raised two children, a son Eric and a daughter, Sarah.  The Saetre’s lived in Long Prairie for over forty years where Gaylord served as Todd County Attorney.  Mary worked several years at American Heritage Bank and was an active member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church and served as a Eucharistic Minister.  For many years during the winter months, Mary and Gaylord enjoyed the warmth of Lake Havasu, AZ and had just recently moved to Perham, MN to be closer to family.

Mary was a kind and gracious hostess, whether out in public or simply serving guests in her home.  She loved to entertain friends and family and greeted everyone she met with a smile. She was an avid Bridge player who also loved to cook, take long walks and socialize.  She liked to travel, whether near or far, but especially enjoyed taking short Casino trips with her girlfriends and her many trips to the cabin with her “BAF” girls.  What brought her most happiness however, was just being with her family.  Her children and grandchildren were her pride and joy and she took great pleasure in spoiling them.

Mary will live on in the hearts of her family, especially her husband, Gaylord Saetre of Perham; a son, Eric (Lindsey) Saetre of Duluth, MN and a daughter, Sarah (Loren) Urbach of Perham, MN; 2 grandchildren, Seth and Leah Urbach; her siblings, Vern (MarySue) Conaway of VA, Dee Dee (Jim) Broveleit of Richfield, MN and Don (Sherry) Conaway of Champlin, MN; several nieces and nephews.

Mary is preceded in death by her mother, Dorothy Conaway and a sister, Sue Conlin.

A Mass of Resurrection will be held for Mary on Friday, November 6, 2020 at 11:00 am at St. Mary of Mount Carmel Catholic Church in Long Prairie with Fr. Omar Guanchez officiating.  Musician is Duane Brieter.  Visitation will take place starting at 10:00 am at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Long Prairie, MN.  A private family inurnment will be held at a later date.  The livestream link is: stmarymtcarmellongprairie.weconnect.com

Memorials are preferred in lieu of floral pieces and may be directed to St. Mary’s Parochial School, 425 Central Ave, Long Prairie, MN.
