Mary Ann Wit, of Osakis MN, passed away peacefully at the Galeon on December 17th, 2021, with her children at her side at the age of 77 years old.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday, December 30, 2021, at 11:00 AM at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Osakis.
A visitation will take place one hour prior to mass at the church on Thursday.
Interment will be in Calvary Catholic Cemetery in Osakis.
Mary Ann was the daughter of Roy and Agnes Peterson, born on June 30, 1944. She grew up helping on the family farm in Osakis. She graduated from Osakis High School, and on August 20th, 1963, she married her high school sweetheart, Arlo Witt. They started their lifelong journey on a farm not too far from where she grew up. Together they had 4 children: Michael, Cindy, Scott, and Shanna.
Due to Arlo’s health issues, they sold their farm in 1980 and moved to Staples MN. Mary continued her education and graduated from Wadena Tech taking a secretarial course. The next 10 years were difficult, and they moved 4 more times. During this time Mary was employed at many different places. Finally, in 1990, they resided back in Osakis to help her parents and brother on the family farm. During this time, Mary worked at Wacosa helping the handicapped and at DSR in Sauk Centre.
Mary retired in 2009 to be able to take care of and spend time with Arlo who was terminally ill.
Mary is survived by her children, Cindy (Wesely) Diel of Osakis, Scott Witt of Swift Falls, Shanna (kris) Middendorf of Sauk Centre; grandchildren, Samantha and Josephine Diel, Michael, Alexis, and Jerrald Witt, and Miranda, Haley, and Brianna Middendorf.
Also, her siblings, Richie Peterson of Alexandria, Doris (Curt) Hanson of Little Falls, Judy (Leroy) Toenies of Akeley, and Ruth (Jim) Tessier of Farmington.
Mary is Preceded in death by her son, Michael Witt, her husband Arlo Witt, her brothers Ronald, and Russell Peterson.
Mary was a devoted wife and loving mother. Her grandchildren were her pride and joy. Her eyes always beamed when they were present. She had a bubbly personality, and a very caring heart. She loved making people laugh especially her grandchildren.
On occasion Mary and her sisters would have a girls get away, sharing laughs and memories with one another.
Mary had a big heart for animals and had the pleasure of owning horses which she loved to ride. She raised collies and chickens and many pets throughout her lifetime.
Some of her other hobbies include, spending time with family and friends, bird watching, watching movies, interacting with friends on Facebook, watching her grandkids play sports, and playing bingo.
Mary Ann will be dearly missed as she impacted the lives of many.
