LIFE HISTORY FOR MERLUND "BUD" BREES
Merlund 'Bud' Brees, age 87 of Osakis died Sunday morning, September 14, 2008 at his home in rural Osakis, MN.
Merlund Harry Brees was born on August 18, 1921 in Orange Township, Osakis, MN to Harry and Jeffery (Craig) Brees. He enjoyed life on the family farm and quickly took to the many chores and things there were to learn about farming. He loved tractor driving and working the land. He volunteered his services to do gravedigging at the English Grove Cemetery for neighbors and friends. He also drove truck for his brother, Melvin in South St. Paul. On September 22, 1942, Merlund was united in marriage to Stella Ferrian in Osakis.
Bud was known as a hard working man who never shied away from completing whatever job he had to do. He was a quiet man who was content to be outdoors fishing or hunting. Yodeling was another hobby he enjoyed. A fun night for Bud was getting together with friends for a game of cards and making homemade ice cream. He was excited to take a trip to see his brother in Alaska and thoroughly enjoyed his travels there. He was a kind and loving husband, father and grandpa who will be dearly missed by his family and friends.
Bud is survived by his wife, Stella Brees of Osakis; a daughter, Elizabeth 'Betty' Sopcyk, also of Osakis; 4 grandchildren, Jeffrey (Kate) Sopcyk, Michael Sopcyk, Lisa (Jerad) Dixon and Jenny (Mike) Cunningham; 4 great grandchildren, Kirsten Perleberg, Estella Sopcyk, Leona Cunningham, Julian Dixon; many nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents, a son, James in 1994; 4 brothers, Melvin, Marvin, Ralph and Gordon Brees; 3 sisters, Mildred Anderson, Myrtle Scheel and Marion Skierecki.
Funeral services were held on Wednesday, September 17, 2008 at 11:00 am at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Osakis with Fr. Ralph Zimmerman officiating. Music was by the funeral choir. Interment was at the Calvary Cemetery in Osakis with pallbearers Bob and Bruce Massmann, Mark Grundman, Allen Hendricks, Johnnie Briol and Mickey Klasen.
