FUNERAL NOTICE FOR MIKE GETTEL
Michael Gettel, age 64 of Osakis died unexpectedly on Monday, June 15 at the University of MN Medical Center in Minneapolis, MN. Funeral services will be held on Friday, June 19 at 11:00 am at the Roy-Hetland Funeral Home in Osakis with a visitation beginning one hour prior at 10:00 am. Inurnment is at the Calvary Cemetery in Osakis, MN.
Life History for Michael Gettel
Michael John Gettel was born on July 11, 1950 in Breckenridge, MN to Lloyd and Valentina (Mondry) Gettel. He grew up and graduated from school in Milaca, MN. As a young adult, he moved to the Osakis area in 1968 when his parents bought a farm northeast of Osakis. He served his country in the MN National Guard and then also began a lifelong career as a truck driver. His most recent employment was with the Daggett Truck Line of Clearwater. He had done some farming in addition to trucking and had worked for the Timmer Farms near Long Prairie for several years.
Mike enjoyed nature and being outdoors. He loved to deer hunt each fall and would get out fishing whenever time allowed. He also owned and enjoyed working with horses. Mike liked to try his luck at the casinos and enjoyed socializing with his friends and neighbors.
Mike is survived by two aunts, Marcella Gettel of Lidgerwood, North Dakota and Evelyn Nogowski of Omaha, Nebraska. Preceding him in death are his parents and a sister, Diane Gettel.
Memorial services for Mike were held on Friday, June 19 at 11:00 am at the Roy-Hetland Funeral Home in Osakis with Deacon Stan Hennen officiating. Inurnment was at the Calvary Cemetery in Osakis, MN.
