Myron (Mike) Kenneth Barber passed away January 2, 2024, peacefully at the Galeon nursing home in Osakis with his wife Lucille by his side.
Myron was born on April 18, 1928, to Arthur and Ethel (Maus) Barber in Osakis. He was the second oldest child of 4.
Mike was a member of the Osakis Lutheran Church where he served as a deacon and was a life member of the VFW. He and Lucille enjoyed morning coffees at the Osakis and Alexandria VFWs with many friends.
He was drafted into the army on January 16, 1951. His basic training was at Fort Riley, Kansas and then Aberdeen, MD training as a tank mechanic. He served in South Korea until being honorably discharged as a CPL in 1953. After leaving the army he worked for Seeger Refrigeration in St. Paul.
On November 6, 1954, he married the love of his life, Lucille Bearson. Together they had 2 children, Kenneth Arthur and Kay Lynn, and made their home in Osakis.
While living in Osakis he worked many years for Lloyd Shrode IH equipment as a Farm Equipment Mechanic. In 1978 he went into partnership with John Shrode to form Red Line Repair until retiring March 18, 1993.
He continued working part-time for Peternell Equipment and Schiffler Equipment of Albany, MN, and Bob Finnegan of Osakis.
He enjoyed working and staying busy. He golfed, fished and bowled. He was a handyman that could fix or build anything and enjoyed many projects, especially working on Cub Cadet and John Deere riding lawn mowers.
After retiring Myron and Lucille spent many enjoyable winters in Arizona meeting lots of new friends.
He always had a great sense of humor. He was a great husband, father, grandparent and friend.
He loved and was loved by his family and friends and will be missed dearly.
He is preceded in death by his parents - Arthur and Ethel (Maus) Barber, his brother and sister-in-law Robert and Molly, brother Wayne, brother-in-law Norman Volkman and nephew Mark Barber.
He is survived by Lucille, his wife of 69 years, his son Kenneth (Linda) Barber of Walker, MN, his daughter Kay (Lavern) Flaten of Mena, AR, his sister Verna Volkman of Indianapolis, IN, 4 granddaughters Holly (Marcus) Havins, Jody (Harold) Calkins, Jessica (Tyler) Westfield, Lexie Barber, 3 great grandsons Cole Havins, Holden & Hendricks Westfield, sisters-in-law Marion Barber and Muriel Bearson, brother-in-law Glen (Maryann) Bearson, nephews and cousins.
A celebration of life will take place on Saturday, April 20, 2024, at Osakis Lutheran Church.
