Olivia Bentfield

Olivia Bentfield, age 95 of Osakis, formerly of rural West Union, passed away early Friday morning on All Souls Day, November 2, 2007 at the Community Memorial Home in Osakis, MN.
Olivia Hortsch was born on March 6, 1912 in Genola, MN to Frank and Margaret (Terhaar) Hortsch. She was raised in the Genola and Buckman, MN area. On September 5, 1939 Olivia was united in marriage to Norbert Bentfield in Morrill, MN. They farmed in Ashley Township, Stearns county, raising crops and dairy farming. After their retirement, the Bentfield's moved into Osakis in 1978 and then they moved to the Terrace Heights assisted living apartments in 1997. The last several years Olivia has been a resident at the Community Memorial Home in Osakis, MN.
Olivia was a member of St. Alexius Catholic Church in West Union for many years and belonged to the St. Ann's Christian Mothers at St. Alexius. She became a member of Immaculate Conception parish when they moved to Osakis.
Olivia was an avid gardener and loved her flower gardens. She canned each fall and enjoyed doing quilting projects during the long winter months. She liked to go to dances and get together with neighbors and friends for cards. She was a kind and caring mother, grandma and sister who will be lovingly remembered by her family.
She is survived by her children, Jerry (Judy) Bentfield of Hartford, WI, LeRoy Bentfield of Belle Plaine, Margaret (Gary) Winter of Alexandria, Barbara Bentfield of Joshua, TX, Peter Bentfield of Burton, KS and George (Barb) Bentfield of Sauk Centre; 13 grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren; 2 great great grandchildren; a brother, Xavier (Evelyn) Hortsch of Little Falls; a sister, Philomena Teuber of St. Cloud; many nieces and nephews.
Preceding her in death are her parents, her husband, Norbert in 1999; a granddaughter, Debbie Bentfield; sisters, Adeline Hortsch, Cecilia Emmel and Helen Kappes; brothers, Larry and John Hortsch.
A Mass of Resurrection was held for Olivia on Wednesday, November 7, 2007 at 11:00 am at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Osakis with Fr. Ralph Zimmerman officiating. Music was provided by the church organ choir, with soloist Dana Hetland and organist, Charmaine Hartmann. Interment was at the St. Alexius Church Cemetery in West Union, MN. Honorary pallbearers were the members of St. Ann's Christian Mothers. Active bearers were her six children, Jerry, LeRoy, Peter and George Bentfield, Margaret Winter and Barbara Bentfield.
Arrangments were handled by the Roy-Hetland Funeral Home in Osakis, MN.
