Life History for Orville Garvin
Orville Garvin, age 85, of Osakis passed away on Friday, December 5 at the Community Memorial Home in Osakis, MN.
Orville Wallace Garvin was born on January 14, 1923 in Orange Township, Douglas Co., MN, one of the twelve children born to William and Hulda (Polley) Garvin. He attended country school and worked for the Civilian Conservation Corps for six months at Camp Isabella doing tree cutting. On September 20, 1943, Orville was united in marriage to Ruth Scott at the Methodist Church in Alexandria. They began farming and bought the neighboring farm to his family's farm in 1948. Orville worked the land until a stroke prompted him to retire in 2002. Orville moved into the Pine Villa (a care facility) in Melrose in 2004 and then transferred to the Osakis Memorial Home in 2008.
Orville was active as a member of the Dist. 7 school board, the Douglas Co. FHA board and was board supervisor for Orange Township for many years. He was an avid reader and also enjoyed playing cards. He liked to go roller skating in his younger days as well as area dances. He did many repairs on the farm equipment over the years and was a very good welder.
Orville is survived by his wife of 65 years, Ruth Garvin of Alexandria; children, Connie (Roy) Medenwaldt of Alexandria, Audrey Cain of Helena, MT, Betty Jean (Mark) Lukes of Alexandria, Donna Wohlenhaus of Park Rapids and Scott (Krisie) Garvin of Monticello; 11 grandchildren; 9 great grandchildren; sisters, Doris Holder of Osakis, Ina Holder of Bakersfield, CA and Lucille Ehrenberg of Little Falls, MN; sister-in-law, Mae Garvin of Alexandria; many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, December 13 at 2:00 pm at the New Life Church in Alexandria with Pastor John Taplin officiating. Interment is at the Nelson Cemetery in Nelson, MN with urn bearers, Julius & Clarice Massmann. Honorary bearers are his grandchildren, Matthew Medenwaldt, Michelle Rhen, Dianna Roers, Deanna Ziesman, Jamie Cain, Dennis & Denise Lukes, Wendy Mulville, Brandy Wohlenhaus, Karla Brandt and Christian Garvin and great grandchildren, Isak & Nina Rhen, Devin, Sadie and Emma Roers, Allen & Amanda Ziesman, Emerson Lukes and Kyron Wohlenhaus.
Memorials preferred to the Parkinson's Research & Hospice of Minnesota.
Arrangements were handled by the Roy-Hetland Funeral Home, Osakis, MN.
