LIFE HISTORY for PERLE OYSTER
Perle Oyster, age 89 of Osakis passed away on Wednesday, June 14, 2006 at the St. Cloud Hospital in St. Cloud, MN.
Perle Audrey (LaMay) Oyster was born to her parents, Benjamin and Wreathy (Vanderhoff) LaMay on January 11, 1917 in Compton Township, Ottertail County, MN. She graduated from Wadena High School and then attended the Minneapolis School of Business. Perle married Howard Oyster on May 20th, 1938 at the Congregational Church in Wadena. This union presented them with six daughters.
Perle and Howard and family moved to Osakis in 1953 embarking in their own business. Perle waitressed for many years at Osterberg's Cafe in Alexandria. Howard passed away in 1984 and Perle remained in Osakis until the fall of 2000. She then relocated to the Reichard Place in Long Prairie.
In addition to raising her family, milking cows and waitressing, Perle was also an active 4-H leader, who was involved with the Douglas County Dairy Princess program. She was a member of the American Dairy Association and also belonged to the First Presbyterian church and ladies aide.
Perle loved to travel and visited Hawaii, Europe and California and usually spent the winter months with her daughters in Colorado. She had a love for life and enjoyed going to casinos, playing cards and stopping at any or all garage sales. She had to see and touch everything. She also enjoyed baking and entertaining. Her favorite saying was "to know life is to love many things."
Perle was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Kathleen Nancy Oyster, her parents, her husband, Howard Oyster, two brothers, Benjamin and Arthur LaMay, two sisters, Mable Skog and Mildred Uselman.
She is survived by her daughters, Judith Miller (Ross) of Simala, CO, Jean Edenloff (Marvin) of Columbia Heights, MN, Jane Duncan (Marvin) of Thornton, CO, Juanita Hughes (Harry Dean) of Osakis, MN, Jarrell Robinson (Curtis) of Grove City, MN; 7 grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren; 4 step grandchildren; 10 great stepgrandchildren; many nieces and nephews.
A memorial service was held for Perle on Monday, June 19, 2006 at 11:00 at the First Presbyterian Church in Osakis with Rev. Kathy Schuler officiating.
Arrangements were handled by the Roy-Hetland Funeral Home in Osakis, MN.
