Phyllis Tegels

Phyllis Tegels, age 90 of Osakis passed into her new life on Wednesday, June 5, 2019 from the Galeon in Osakis, MN.

On August 30, 1928 a daughter was born to John and Clara (Thomas) Cabanowski in Strickland, WI.  They lovingly named their only daughter Phyllis Lucille.  As she grew, Phyllis attended school and graduated from Bruce High School with the Class of 1946.  On March 31, 1951 Phyllis was united in marriage to Joseph Tegels at St. Anthony of Padua Church in Minneapolis, MN and shortly afterwards they began a life together farming the family farm which was located just north of Osakis, MN on County Rd 3.  They raised six children there and worked a productive dairy operation for many years.  Phyllis was active at the farm, helping to do daily feedings and continually working with the young stock.  She also helped raise the hogs, chickens and was outside every summer helping bale the hay.  She was not afraid of hard work and loved life on the farm.  She raised a large garden to feed her family and spent hours in the kitchen canning each season.  Phyllis was a faithful member of the Immaculate Conception Church in Osakis and belonged to the Christian Mothers and the Daughters of Isabella.  After retiring and moving into a beautiful brick home in town, Phyllis enjoyed taking long car rides and some casino bus trips.  She used to enjoy bowling and was a whiz at doing word find puzzles.  Phyllis left a legacy of love in the lives of her husband, children and grandchildren, whom she loved dearly. Blessed be her memory.

Phyllis is survived by her husband, Joseph ‘Joe’ Tegels of Osakis; children, Veronica (Allen) Kallio of Waconia, Roxanne (Stephen) Blanchard of Park Rapids, Janice (Rahn) Peterson of Champlin, Joanne Tegels of Osakis, Monica Tegels of Park Rapids, Joe Tegels of Osakis; 4 grandchildren; 6 great grandchildren.  She is preceded in death by her parents.

A Mass of Resurrection was held on Saturday, June 8, 2019 at 11:00 am at the Terrace Heights Chapel at the Galeon of Osakis with Fr. Dave Petron officiating.  A gathering time for family and friends will begin there at 10:00 am.  Interment is at the Calvary Cemetery in Osakis, MN.
