Life History for Robert 'Bob' Mostad

Robert 'Bob' Mostad, age 88 of Osakis went to meet his Lord early Monday morning, June 23, 2014, from the Douglas County Hospital in Alexandria, MN.

Robert Alfred Mostad was born on November 26, 1925, in Aneta, North Dakota to Henry and Ruth (Crawford) Mostad. He graduated from Osakis High School with the class of 1943. Bob grew up on a farm and remained active in various aspects of agriculture all of his life. As a boy he was involved in the Fancy Farmers 4H Club and his love for farming and nature never ceased. He married Janet Husmann on Sept. 1, 1949, at the Baptist Church parsonage in Alexandria, MN. They farmed over forty-two years south of Osakis, MN, retiring in the spring of 1991. While farming, Bob also was a dealer, installer, and serviced Van Dale feeding equipment. Following retirement, he was Administrator for the Sauk River Watershed District. Following his years as Administrator, he worked for Rainbow Rider as a driver.

Bob was an active member of the Sauk Valley Lutheran Church and helped with Sunday School, was both a deacon and trustee, and served on the cemetery board. When it came to serving his church, his profession, and both Todd and Douglas counties, Bob was a dedicated volunteer. He served on many boards and attended countless meetings during his many years of service. He was active as a member of the Sauk River Watershed District, a member and former director of the Osakis Creamery Board, served twelve years on the Osakis Public School Board, served on the Douglas County Planning and Zoning Board, belonged to the Douglas County Republicans, was a member of Gideon International, the National Rifle Association, and also belonged to the Vintage Car Club.

Gardening, woodworking, and hunting were hobbies Bob enjoyed. He also enjoyed going to area car and threshing shows. He enjoyed music, especially old time and gospel music. Over his life time he had many pets the latest being his beloved dog, Mocha.

Bob had a kind heart and liked to socialize. He was a loving, thoughtful husband, dad and grandpa who will be dearly missed by his family, neighbors, and many friends.

He is preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Arthur Mostad and a sister, Helen Christensen.

Left to mourn his passing is his wife of 64 years, Janet Mostad of Sauk Centre; children, Virginia 'Ginny' (Newton) Earl of Osakis, Frances 'Fran' (Al) Sing of New London, Dennis (Debra) Mostad of Eden Prairie, John (Sheryl) Mostad of Osakis, Martha (Peter) Vogel of Apple Valley, Verna (James Gelhaye) Mostad of St. Paul, Peggy (Jason) Otterness of So St. Paul; 10 grandchildren; 7 great grandchildren.

Funeral services were held for Bob on Saturday, June 28, 2014, at 10:30 am at the Osakis Lutheran Church in Osakis with Rev. Steve Hilde and Chaplain Dave Greaver officiating. Musicians were the Gordon Mens Chorus with accompanist, Juanita Klukken. Interment was at the Sauk Valley Church Cemetery in rural Osakis with honorary bearers being the Douglas County Planning and Zoning Board & staff and the Sauk River Watershed District Board & staff. Active bearers were his grandchildren, Michael and Kenny Earl, Jason Mostad, Derek Mostad, Erik Vogel and close friend Fred Messer.
