Shirley A. Marthaler, age 88, passed away peacefully on December 2, 2023, in Galeon. She was born on September 23, 1935, in Sauk Centre to her loving parents, George and Mary Minette. Shirley was a devoted wife, caring mother, and beloved member of the community.

Shirley will always be remembered for her hard work and dedication as a successful waitress at various local supper clubs. Her friendly demeanor and warm smile made her a favorite among the customers she served throughout the years. In addition to her career as a waitress, Shirley was also a hard-working farm wife who raised 11 children with love and devotion. She embraced the joys and challenges of motherhood, instilling strong values in her children that they carry with them to this day.

Beyond her professional and family life, Shirley had many passions and interests. One of her greatest joys was gathering with friends and family to play cards. She cherished these moments spent connecting with loved ones and always looked forward to the next game.

Shirley's life was guided by faith, and she was an active member of St. Alexius Catholic Church in West Union. Her unwavering belief in God's love provided comfort and strength throughout her journey. She found solace in attending church services regularly and participating in community events that celebrated her faith.

Shirley is survived by her children Daniel (Susan) Marthaler of Sauk Center, Marilyn (John) Nathe of Sauk Centre, Nancy (Michael) Thompson of Alexandria, Gary (Donna Imdieke) Marthaler of Sauk Centre, Carol (Roger) Engle of West Union, David (Mary Jo) Marthaler of Sauk Centre, Diane Mensen of Sauk Centre, Joyce (Thomas) Torvick of Rice, and Gerald (Kristen) Marthaler of Sauk Centre, sister Bernice Proell and brother-in-law Bernard Nietfeld.

Shirley is preceded in death by her husband James (Jim) Marthaler, daughter Patricia Marthaler, son Ronald Marthaler, great-grandchild Isaac Lieser, sisters Leona Bromenshenkel, Mildred Rieland, Mary Mae Olson and Delphine Nietfeld, brother Jerome (Bud) Minette, sisters-in-law Lucille Minette, Rosalie Ecker, and Helen Marthaler, brothers-in-law Leonard Bromenshenkel, Roman Rieland, Virden Olson, Dave Proell, and Vernon (Bud) Marthaler.

Family and friends are invited to attend the visitation service on December 7, 2023, at St. Alexius Catholic Church located at 11 Oak St, West Union, MN, 56389. The visitation will begin at 10:30 AM and will continue until noon, followed by the funeral service at 12:00 PM. The services will provide an opportunity for loved ones to gather, share memories, and celebrate Shirley's remarkable life.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations to be made in Shirley's honor to Poor Clares Monastery in Sauk Rapids. This serves as a testament to her compassion and desire to make a positive impact on the lives of others.
